Your role at Clorox:
The Principal Regulatory Affairs Specialist position is a lead regulatory/technical role focused on supporting the compliance and safety of products for our Burt's Bees® cosmetic business, including our over-the-counter (OTC) products. You will work with a team of regulatory professionals in the Global Stewardship (GS) department and in collaboration with R&D, Marketing, Legal, Government Affairs, Quality, and Product Supply. The successful individual will leverage internal and external experts to drive functional excellence and adopt new ways of working, enabling projects to progress with more differentiated ideas and solutions while ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
Additionally, this person will participate in trade associations to represent Burt's Bees' interests in addressing emerging regulations and scientific challenges, as well as interact with regulatory agencies in support of regulatory programs. The Principal Regulatory Affairs Specialist is a subject matter expert (SME) in areas of their specialization or on specific regulatory programs.
In this role, you will:

  • Provide thought leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of tools and processes for cosmetics/OTCs.
  • Research and provide recommendations to Discovery and Innovation project teams to drive growth.
  • Monitor and proactively communicate emerging/changing cosmetic regulations (e.g., MoCRA), interpret related information and summarize impact to key stakeholders.
  • Leverage external engagement to anticipate regulatory trends and remain current with applicable regulations, guidance documents, guidelines, and developments, interpret complex information, summarize impact, and deliver recommendations in a clear, concise, and focused manner to business leaders and teams.
  • Participate and lead external forums that provide technical expertise to support regulatory science or contribute to industry advocacy activities.
  • Build organizational knowledge and understanding through effective mentoring; champion and act upon opportunities to provide technical coaching to junior staff and drive capability development.
  • Proactively partner with GS team members in other businesses to drive Regulatory efficiency.

What we look for:
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree (or equivalent) in a relevant technical field.
  • 8+ years experience in the FDA cosmetics Regulatory space, including OTC regulations, guidance and policies for label claims, ingredients, formulations, processes and registrations.
  • A thorough understanding of the FDA enforcement landscape (e.g., including trends/hotspots and state versus federal enforcement).; the ability to critically evaluate and interpret proposed legislation and existing regulations.
  • Proficient at conveying complex regulatory information to the business in a clear, focused, and concise manner; ability to stand up to "do the right thing," to drive change and influence cross-functional partners.
  • Strong leadership, technical, and teamwork skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Workplace type:
Hybrid: This position will be hybrid and can be located in Durham, NC or Pleasanton, CA. The individual will work in the office 3 days a week and remotely the other 2 days. (Relo assistance may be provided.)

Based on the breadth of our ranges, most new hires will start at Clorox in the first half of the applicable range. Your starting pay will depend on job-related factors, including relevant skills, knowledge, experience and location. The applicable salary range for every role in the U.S. is based on your work location and is aligned to one of three zones according to the cost of labor in your area.
-Zone A: $121,900 - $240,100
-Zone B: $111,700 - $220,100
-Zone C: $101,600 - $200,100

This job is also eligible for participation in Clorox's incentive plans, subject to the terms of the applicable plan documents and policies.
