Principal Investigator for Small Business Innovative Research Phase I applied research project exploring an innovative capability to use advanced manufacturing to develop a Common Launch Container to meet military specification requirements for storage, transportation, and munitions launch. Will lead a team of experienced pneumatic system designers and engineersconducting the feasibility study and provide direction and project management oversight to ensure schedule and budgetary constraints are met. Successful completion of study may result in follow on development for a Phase II and Phase III prototype for operational testing.
Research, design, and prove feasibility for an energetic launch system incorporating existing system specifications and limitations.
Qualifications
Licenses or Certifications: (Preferred but not required) Professional Engineer (PE) License, Six Sigma or PMP certification.
Education:
Master’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college with 7+ years’ experience; or bachelor’s degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited college in a related discipline (Aero, Mechanical, etc.) with 15+ years of experience.
Experience:
- Minimum of ten years’ experience with design of pressurized systems.
- Familiarity with energetics, pneumatic systems and mechanisms.
- Experience with Air Force Special Operations and employment/deployment of non-traditional munitions is strongly preferred.
- Proven track record of leading technical teams and managing complex projects.
- Strong technical expertise in advanced manufacturing techniques, aerospace design, and military specifications.
- Experience with Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) or other government-funded research programs.
- Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and other engineering tools.
- U.S Citizen.
Principal Duties
The Principal Investigator/project manager provides the scientific and technical direction to the project. As lead for thefeasibility study, ensures the study team addresses overall system design options with respective specifications on the key system attributes:
Skills and Abilities: Must have the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with others to solve problems. The successful candidate has a “can-do” attitude with a hunger for solving complex technical challenges. Will work with CR Access and Teammate engineering staff to accomplish design, test, and experimentation objectives.
Must have the ability to review innovative design from a Systems Engineering perspective. This role demands a strong combination of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to meet schedule and budgetary constraints.
