The Windows Silicon and System Architecture (WSSI) team is currently recruiting a Principal Intellectual Property Architect with a track record of delivering high quality user experiences. As the subsystem lead for this team, you will provide detailed requirements, drive innovation on capabilities and deliver unique customer experiences. You will seek to improve performance/power and battery life by working with Windows operating system (OS), first party applications, third party component and software vendors.
The Principal Intellectual Property Architect will be an industry leader who has had in-depth experience in a more than one domain in their career. They will be responsible for understanding state-of-the-art Intellectual Property (IP) in Display controllers, Media engines, graphics processing units (GPU), Audio, Sensing, Ethernet, Wireless and/or Cellular algorithms and their requirements, using this to deliver exceptional experiences across our entire portfolio of future generation products. This role requires detail orientation and affinity to enable efficiencies in process and methodologies - from early interaction to our silicon, through guiding an engineering organization on user experiences to the final product release.

Responsibilities
  • Determine requirements in a range of capabilities including but not limited to Benchmarking, Performance/Power, Latency/Bandwidth analysis, Thermal operation point, IP architecture partitions and trade-offs, related memory technologies, Key Experience Indicators.
  • Complete IP performance, latency, bandwidth, power and thermal studies
  • Identify applicable emerging technologies to drive new product features and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with business, industrial design, user experience, hardware, software, test, and manufacturing teams to influence and define technology and product roadmaps.
  • Contribute to the selection of IP and define IP goals that meet device product expectations and exceptional customer experiences while meeting schedule, quality, and cost commitments.
  • Understand overall System on Chip (SoC) architecture and contribute to decisions based on IP capabilities, functionality, and value.

Qualifications
Required/Minimum Qualifications:
  • 12+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years of technical engineering experience.
  • 7+ years demonstrated experience in Architecture or Design Development of client subsystems.
  • 3+ years leading the development in at least two client subsystems including Display/Media, GPUs, Audio/Sensing, Ethernet/Wireless/Cellular communications

Additional or Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 12+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience. Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,
    • OR related field AND 5+ years of technical engineering experience
  • 10+ years demonstrated experience in Architecture or Design Development of client subsystems.
  • 5+ years leading the development in at least two client subsystems including Display/Media, GPUs, Audio/Sensing, Ethernet/Wireless/Cellular communications
  • Expertise in multiple domains as well as corresponding hardware, Printed Circuit Board (PCB), SoC, high speed link design, debug, and support experience
  • Demonstratable expert knowledge of client computing SoC Architecture, requirements, and definition in order to understand how each domain fits optimally.
  • Expertise of domains' OS and driver foundations, Firmware (FW) and Hardware (HW) components and their interactions leading to high quality designs that balance Quality of Service (QoS) with performance/power.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
  • Self-starter with demonstrated ability to perform in a high paced product development environment.
  • Capable of managing a great level of ambiguity and minimal direction to extract relevant goals while driving to completion.
  • Willing to travel internationally up to 10%.

Electrical Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 - $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 - $282,200 per year.
