JOB DESCRIPTION:?

This opportunity is for a flexible, self-motivated, and innovative individual with an interest in providing senior level technical direction, strategic project planning, and developing high-quality work products for our wide variety of clients. The successful individual will be an integral team member that will provide technical leadership for our remediation and sediment/risk assessment service lines for environmental investigation, remediation, and water resources projects located throughout the United States and, potentially, internationally. Primary responsibilities in this role will be focused on working with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals developing project solutions and high-quality work products. The successful team member will have additional opportunities to support the growth of our technical practice, expand our client portfolio, and mentor staff along their career path. Key to success will be the ability to work contemporaneously across multiple projects and advise the project teams to ensure quality and value for our clients and reduce/remove risks that impact project success. This expert-level professional will support project managers and technical teams with skills in the follow areas:

  • Listen: Absorb the information needed to maintain an understanding of project objectives and an awareness of how the team is strategically planning and executing the project.

  • Think: Identify potential issues and draw on experience and expertise to identify potential outcomes and alternative approaches or perspectives.

  • Advise: Evoke critical thinking by asking questions, posing alternative ideas, and exposing potential pitfalls and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Collaborate: Support project teams in developing a strategic vision and identifying resources and methods to succeed.

Required experience and expertise include:

  • Data analysis – assessment of environmental datasets to derive observations and conclusions.

  • Technical writing – demonstrated effective written and verbal communication of key findings and strategies in reports and other work products.

  • Presentations - developed and communicated observations, findings, and recommendations to internal project teams, clients, and regulators.

  • Conceptual Site Model (CSM) development – assessment of historical datasets, define data gaps, and develop written work products that incorporate various inputs into the CSM (e.g., release mechanisms, geological and hydrogeological setting, chemical fate and transport, etc.).

  • Sampling and analysis plans – development of innovative analytical and field data collection programs and strategies to support achievement of project and client objectives.

  • Remedy selection, design, and implementation – evaluate and recommend remedial options specific to contaminants of concern, site setting, regulatory framework, practicality of implementation, and cost.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:?

Required skills and traits:

  • Bachelor’s level degree in a field related to geology, geochemistry, hydrogeology, or environmental science with 15 or more years of applicable work experience.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Writing examples and/or completion of a test exercise may be requested.

  • Hydrogeology and/or aqueous geochemistry experience.

  • Experience working with complex environmental and geospatial datasets.

  • Strong data evaluation skills and the ability to effectively communicate findings and recommendations from complex datasets.

  • Application of strategic thinking and innovative approaches in developing work plans and assessing datasets to achieve project and client objectives.

  • Strong understanding of environmental regulations (state and federal) and demonstrated ability to apply regulations strategically to achieve project and client objectives.

  • Expert-level experience in one or more of the following technical areas:

  • Design and implementation of multi-media investigation work programs to support CSM development and remedy selection.

  • Design and interpretation of slug test and pump test data.

  • Monitored natural attenuation and/or enhanced MNA remedies.

  • Advanced environmental site assessment tools (e.g., borehole geophysics, stable isotope analysis, membrane interface probe assessments, NAPL assessment, etc.).

  • NAPL mobility assessments and recovery.

  • Contaminant fate and transport.

  • Human health risk assessment.

  • Groundwater and/or geochemical modeling and statistical evaluation software (e.g., ModFlow, Earth Volumetric Studio [EVS], BioScreen, MAROS, Geochemists’ Workbench, or similar).

  • Strong communication skills and demonstrated commitment to delivering high-quality work products.

  • Skill in fostering team collaboration to enhance project outcomes, accompanied by a strong willingness to provide support and mentorship to colleagues in their professional growth.

  • Comfortable working in a remote office setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing simultaneous tasks.

  • Able to stimulate discussion and drive project teams to decisions with limited time/information on a given project.

  • Able to work across multiple projects at the same time (can work in parallel, not in series).

  • Able to insert yourself into a project, if needed, to mitigate risks to the project, client, and/or company.

  • Maturity to escalate risks to leadership decisions.

  • Interest and ability to travel out of state and overnight for meetings, site visits, and initiation of complex field programs.

Highly ranked candidates will have one or more of the following skills or traits:

  • Master’s or PhD level credentials in a relevant field of study.

  • Ability to use geospatial software (ArcGIS and/or QGIS).

  • Experience providing litigation support on technical topics and/or serving as an expert witness.
