Snohomish County, WA - Growing product manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Principal Hardware Engineer to join their team on a full-time basis.
Principle Responsibilities and Duties:
Responsible design engineer for various modules, collecting requirements from system level documentation, and writing specifications.
* Define electrical architecture and generate requirements for products.
* Design, simulation, and debugging of analog and digital circuits incorporating FPGAs and microcontrollers for ultrasound, LASER, and/or RF energy measurement and control.
* Schematic capture of electronic circuits.
* Direct CAD layout resources.
* Conduct laboratory debug and integration activities;
* Hold and participates in technical design reviews;
* Test and verify product designs and write design verification/ validation documentation.
* Build and/or supervise the building of product prototypes.
* DFM and EMC analysis of existing and new medical device designs.
* Assure compliance of equipment to IEC medical device standards (60601-1, 60601-1-2, etc.).
* Failure mode, Safety, and Hazard analysis and documentation of new and legacy device designs.
* Assist Manufacturing and Service departments in reliability and failure analysis investigations and solutions.
* Mentor junior engineers in best practices in design, debugging, and documentation.
Experience, Education, Training, Skills, Traits:
BS (MS preferred) in Electrical or Software Engineering or equivalent experience
Minimum five years in digital systems design, including experience in the development of embedded analog and digital circuits.
Candidate must have substantial experience with system-level electrical design and integration, design for EMC and signal integrity, and RF immunity.
Demonstrated experience in design best practices including risk management and design for EMC, safety, and manufacturability.
Outstanding requirements and specification writing skills for regulated products/applications, including design traceability and verification and validation plans.
Experience with IEC 60601 or similar regulatory standards or design in a regulated environment (MIL-STD, FDA) which requires fulfilling quality systems regulations in the design and development lifecycle.
Ability to work in a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment including software, optical, RF, and mechanical engineers and project managers.
* Skilled in problem definition, data collection and analysis, generating solid conclusions and recommendations.
* Experience with analog signal processing circuits;
* Hands-on experience with typical electronics laboratory test equipment;
* Experience with digital hardware development utilizing microprocessors and FPGAs;
* An expert level working knowledge of electrical engineering concepts/principals.
A solid working knowledge of analog/digital circuitry, EDA software, design for manufacturability, and power supply systems is required.
Technically creative and motivated to explore design trade-offs in the development of complex electrical and electro-mechanical systems designs.
Ability to multi-task, and capable of executing multiple assignments on time.
Desired technical skills:
* Background in diagnostic or therapeutic ultrasound;
* Experience with Class D Power Amplifier Design using GaN Devices;
* VHDL programming;
* Experience designing RF amplifiers, matching-networks, distribution systems, or associated hardware, working from prototype to full product release and applying design and verification tools as appropriate (Orcad, PSpice, Allegro)
* C/C++ programming experience;
* Experience with Matlab and LabView programming;
* Control system design and implementation.
