ABOUT OUR SCHOOL
Atlanta International School (AIS) offers the full International Baccalaureate (IB) continuum to all students, from 3K through grade 12. JOB PURPOSE

Teachers at AIS are innovators and leaders who have a passion for working with students in a multilingual and multicultural community and are always seeking new ways to personalize learning. With an interdisciplinary focus, AIS teachers also integrate innovative learning strategies while working with a diverse student population.

This is a full-time Learning Support Coordinator position working with students in Grades 3K-Grade 5 with mild to moderate learning needs.

FLSA: Exempt
Hours per week: 40 hours (Full-time)
Reports to: Head of Primary School
Start Date: August 1, 2024

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Teaching and Learning 

  • Complete initial student screenings and provide recommendations for Admissions 
  • Deliver small group lessons to develop academic and executive functioning skills
  • Collaborate with teachers to implement successful learning strategies within the classroom (Tiers 1 & 2)
  • Advocate for inclusive educational practices within the Primary School 
  • Provide/supervise testing accommodations (ie- MAP Growth) 
  • Complete internal diagnostic and progress monitoring assessments (ie- DIBELS) 

 

Record Keeping

  • Safeguard confidential records
  • Create student Individual Learning Plans using psych-educational evaluations and professional expertise
  • Evidence progress using a range of data

 

Coordination

  • Communicate with external agencies as needed
  • Inform and collaborate with the Primary School Principals and teaching staff on student interventions
  • Communicate with families with ongoing progress and recommendations for home-school partnership
  • Participate in student of concern meetings to determine classroom-based scaffolds and interventions 
  • Facilitate growth within the Learning Support department towards team-based professional goals 
  • Support the Primary School towards adopting a school-wide approach to a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework 

 

Training  

  • Attend relevant courses and keep professional credentials up-to-date
  • Support Learning Support staff in continuous improvement 
  • Offer internal professional development to Primary School staff that offer research-based practices on inclusion, differentiation, scaffolding and accommodations  

 

Ideal candidates will have experience with a range of pedagogical approaches and will be excited by the opportunity to teach a diverse student body in an inquisitive and inquiry-based environment. The ideal candidate has demonstrated effective equitable and inclusive practices within and outside the classroom. A passion for working with young learners, flexible attitude, and commitment to lifelong learning. 

REQUIREMENTS 

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in SEN or SpLD (Master’s degree preferred)
  • Certified teacher and/or special educational needs teacher status preferred
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development in Learning Support
  • Extensive experience and proven record as an effective Learning Support teacher for a range of needs
  • Proficiency in English and additionally Spanish, French, German or Chinese preferred 
  • Experience in writing and interpreting special needs documentation 
  • Familiarity and experience leading data-based student learning discussions with structured protocols to plan responsive instruction 
  • Ability to complete diagnostic tests for Specific Learning Difficulties
  • Enthusiastic about teaching within a multicultural and multilingual environment 
  • Flexibility of approach and a collaborative style are essential 
  • A commitment to equity and inclusion, inquiry and experiential-based pedagogy is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners
  • Experience of the IB PYP is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and collaborative skills
