Primary LPN Assistant to OB/GYN provider Dr. Steven Samawi

Job Summary: Assist Salem Clinic providers in the delivery of health care and direct patient care management.

Essential Functions:

  1. Attend morning huddle with practice provider to create plan for each day.
  2. Maintain a professional relationship with the provider you assist.
  3. Have a thorough understanding of provider preferences and ensure support staff is aware of provider preferences.
  4. Take responsibility for the day-to-day flow of the provider’s practice.
    • Plan ahead by looking at up-coming scheduled appointments.
    • Communicate with Care Team Assistant (CTA) and assist with scrubbing charts.
    • Ensure that all in-basket messages are addressed within a timely manner. (Urgent messages ASAP but no longer than 24 hrs. All other messages within 48 hrs).
    • Set-up for and assist provider with all procedures.
    • Communicate clearly with team and support staff of practice needs. Delegate PRN.
  5. Prepare patients for examination and treatment. Record pertinent patient information.
  6. Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  7. Perform selected patient care and clerical duties.
  8. Administer medications, injections as directed by medical provider.
  9. Assist medical provider with examinations, minor procedures, and treatments.
  10. Provide patient education for non complex needs or assist patient in goal selection with aid of educational materials.
  11. Provide After Visit Summary to patient and instruct patient on any follow up appointments or testing needed.
  12. Assist in scheduling of tests and treatment referrals.
  13. Respond to telephone calls / messages and respond accordingly or gather information and transfer to medical provider.
  14. Assist provider with management of patient forms (e.g. FMLA, sport physicals etc.).
  15. Adhere to safe principles of lifting, patient transfer and ergonomics.
  16. Step in as medical chaperone upon provider request.
  17. Assist with precepting new hires and student externships.
  18. Be a resource for staff on probation for medication errors.
  19. Assist Team Leader and Nurse Educator with checking off new staff on competencies not completed in classroom setting
  20. Assist Team leader and nurse Educator with annual competency check off of all staff.
  21. Be a resource on vaccine schedule and accessing/updating Alert – should be a vaccine expert
  22. Resource/go-to for day-to-day Epic issues on the floor.
  23. First level problem solving resource, then to Team Leader.
  24. Assist Team Leader and Nurse Educator with the implementation of new Epic workflows.
  25. Acquire 70 safety points each year to show support in our safety program.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with possession of a current, unencumbered Oregon State Licensed Practical Nurse License or graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a nationally recognized certification such as AAMA, NCCT, or AMT.
  2. Current CPR certification.
  3. 1 year clinical experience or equivalent.
  4. Knowledge of medical practice and care to assist in providing patient care.
  5. Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures.
  6. Knowledge of medical terminology.
  7. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  8. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
  9. Skill in assisting in a variety of treatments and medications as directed.
  10. Proficient in taking vital signs.
  11. Thorough skill in medical record documentation and recording test results.
  12. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  13. Ability to maintain quality control standards. (Rights of Medication administration, specimen labeling, etc)
  14. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergent situations.
  15. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines, protocols, and procedures.
  16. Ability to communicate clearly. Ask clarifying questions as necessary.
  17. Ability to read, understand, and respond to detailed oral and written instructions.
  18. Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing assignments and work pace.
  19. Ability to recognize workflow problems and share ideas for solutions.
  20. Good judgment and decision making skills. Alert provider of concerning patient conditions.
  21. Ability to utilize computer programs expected for patient care and the ability to type at least 30 wpm.
  22. Must be a team player, have a positive attitude, and be detail oriented.

Hours: Full time | 36 hours per week | Variable hours | No weekends, plus one mid-week day off
