Preservation Planner

The City of Geneva is a vibrant community dedicated to maintaining the historical character and beauty that makes our city unique. We are currently seeking a talented and progressive Preservation Planner to join our team in the Community Development Department at City Hall. Reporting to the Director of Community Development, this position conducts in-depth research and makes recommendations on preservation standards and efforts.

Essential job functions

Including but not limited to

• Collect, analyze and present data related to Geneva's Historic District, sites and structures.
• Review permits, plans and other work related to planning and development.
• Provide technical assistance and architectural design guidance to residents, property owners, developers, builders and other members of the community.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Historical Preservation Committee, providing guidance on city codes, ordinances and policies to community partners and stakeholders.
• Update the city's architecural resources inventory and National Park Service certification.
• Prepare informational materials and conduct educational programs on historic preservation topics.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Historic Preservation, Preservation Planning, Architectural History, Urban Planning, Land Use Planning, Architecture, or a related field; and,
• Two to four years of progressively responsible, related experience; or,
• Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated understanding of historic preservation and urban planning principles, as well as a working-knowledge of historic and contemporary construction means and methods. Candidates must have the ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications and drawings.

This position requires exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, and ideal candidates will enjoy working with a wide array of individuals ranging from staff to members of the community.

Applicants should have the ability to attend night and weekend meetings as necessary.

Salary

Salary is DOQ and starts at $82,231 per year.
