ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. The Assistant teacher assists in different aspects of the following responsibilities:
a. Curriculum
- Implementation of Life Essentials, the Kiddie Academy’s developmentally appropriate curriculum
- Prepares lesson plan and daily activities to foster children’s physical, cognitive, language, social and emotional development
- Demonstrates respect for culture and diverse learners, team members, and families
- Collaborates in planning and preparing extra-curricular events such as field trips, center wide activities, etc.
b. Classroom Management
- Supervises children at all times by maintaining established classroom routines and procedures which help children function positively in a group setting
- Maintains learning areas by determining appropriate materials that will support children’s interests and reinforcements of the lesson
- Patiently redirects children’s behavior
- Provides guidance and facilitates positive interaction with children Maintains a healthy and safe environment for children and adults
- Establishes positive relationship with families by sending child’s reports everyday through Tadpoles, have a welcoming attitude with parent’s concerns
- Maintains family information and classroom boards
c. Assessment
- Provides positive feedback to reinforce children’s appropriate behavior
- Observes and records children’s behavior and development
- Administers assessment tools such as: Ages and Stages, and Developmental Checklist for each child to determine the child’s strengths and areas in which may need help/intervention
d. Administrative Duties
- Maintains student’s files (incident/accident and sick exclusion notice)
and students’ portfolio
- Assists in the inventory and ordering of curriculum supplies and materials
- Updates emergency paraphernalia
- Assists in scheduling and coordinating fieldtrips and center wide activities
- Performs other similar or related duties as necessary
2. Parent Communication and Engagement
- Approaches Parents in a positive and respectful manner
- Establishes good rapport and open communication
- Assists in the preparation for the Parent-Teacher Conferences
- Encourages parents to participate in classroom and center wide activities, and attend parenting classes
- Assists in Keeping parent bulletin boards attractive, informative and current
3. Team Work
- Exhibits professionalism and team work
- Establishes positive and open communication
- Establishes and builds good working relationship with colleagues
- Gives suggestions and comments for the betterment of the academy
- Attends professional development, trainings and conferences
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Hold at least an associate’s degree in child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education, or child and family studies or hold an associate’s degree in a field other than child development, early childhood education, early childhood special education, or child and family studies and have earned nine (9) credits in early childhood education;
- Must be able to lift no less than 40 pounds on a consistent basis throughout the workday to at least waist high.
