POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Job Title: Hot Foods Manager

Department:Food Service

Reports To:Perishable Co-Manager

Job Function:

To effectively direct and supervise all function and activities of the Hot Foods Department and its personnel to achieve the sales and profit goals established for the department. The Hot Foods Manager is further responsible for customer satisfaction and associate morale and the smooth and efficient operation of the department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

· Compliance with all Food Safety, Safety and Sanitation policies and procedures as established by Wakefern Foods Corporation Quality Assurance Division.

· Train & Develop each staff member to become efficient, productive and knowledgeable employees.(i.e. team building, scheduling dept. meetings, cross training, coaching, performance appraisals)

· Utilize information supplied on LINK by Wakefern Foods Corporation, reviewed twice daily.

· Greet all customers and maintain good customer relations by providing them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.

· Ensure associate goodwill by promoting and maintaining the highest standards of customer service.

· Be qualified, knowledgeable, able and prepared to perform all the duties and functions of an experienced appetizing clerk.

· Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress code; enforce grooming standards throughout the department.

· Promote department growth by developing a merchandising plan with P-Co-Manager and establish goals.

· Develop and implement “ready for business” standards and guidelines.

· Direct and supervise staff in the appropriate quantities and priority of product to be prepped.

· Maintain an adequate stock of all department staples and seasonal items.

· Monitor volume and item movement daily to determine if adjustments to the next order are necessary.

· Keep complete and accurate records of weekly and holiday sales and item movements.

· Sample new items and seasonal favorites to stimulate customer interest and demand.

· Keep all displays fully stocked and faced at all times according to space allocation, product movement or department standards.

· Monitor department sales, cutouts, SPMH, payroll and gross profit figures weekly.

· Meet or surpass weekly Gross Profit objectives through proper inventory control and creative merchandising.

· Maintain strict standards and procedures for rotation of product on display. Pull out of code merchandise and utilize daily label gun markdown process.

· Check and verify receiving to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check product for quality, count vs. weight, and condition.

· Maintain all scales in good working order and daily check tares to insure that all customers receive 16 oz. to the pound, no more and no less.

· Maintain shrink within acceptable parameters as set by ownership.

· Take a complete and accurate inventory as scheduled.

· Set high standards for yourself and for your staff.

· Crosstrain each associate in the areas of receiving, merchandising and display techniques, signage, pricing, product identification, product characteristics and uses, rotation, department sanitation and safety.

· Review and evaluate in writing all staff members annually.

· Identify and train a backup person in the areas of ordering and inventory to assume these responsibilities in your absence.

· Ensure that each associate is familiar with department scales and functions; how to program, change labels, etc.

· Communicate regularly, with staff members on all shifts with notes & tasks for evening shifts.

· Communicate regularly with GSM, Co-Manager by 9am and 1 hour prior to leaving any issues pertaining to department.

· Maintain regular communication with Scanning Office and Front-End supervision.

· Ensure all prices are accurate to avoid scan rites.

· Ensure all items are price-marked or updated shelf tags in place also P-touch as necessary.

· Ensure compliance with all state, county and local weights and measures laws and labeling requirements.

· Fill all special requests if possible. Maintain a record book for all special orders.

· Maintain company policies on refunds, returns, markdowns, and rainchecks.

· Maintain adequate staffing to meet projected sales and customer service needs.

· Instruct all staff members in proper telephone techniques and usage.

· Monitor associate T&A, take corrective action of necessary.

· Alert P-Co-Manager to associate performance problems so appropriate and timely action may be taken.

· Perform other duties and assignments as assigned.

Standards

* Department must be 100% ready for business by 9am

· Observe all store rules and company policies.

· Comply with company grooming and dress codes.

· Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled by the manager.

· Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations.

· Comply with safety policies and procedures.

· Maintain good communications in the department and throughout the organization.

· Observe security standards by staying alert.

· Daily breaks & lunches as scheduled with 1 night per week worked till 8pm

· Complete any & all commitment books weekly

· All Log books to be completed daily (cleaning, Hot Holding, Cold Holding etc.) as applicable

· Pre Sliced Lunchmeat comply with company standards—no less than ½ pound per package

· Must log all invoices daily, review purchases and verify with weekly WROP Report statement of charges and credits.

· Production Planners printed, completed and reviewed Daily in all loading sections. Ie: chickens, pre sliced, 7s meats, cut fruit, breads rolls etc- where it pertains to the department.

· Menu Labeling standards followed and adhered to daily.

· Maintain full and fresh standards in all areas of hot food (soup bar, olive bar, chicken warmer, hoagie station, hot buffet etc.) utilizing 4 hour shelf life where applicable.

· Utilize excessive products from other departments when planning daily Lunch and Dinner menus.

Requirements

* Utilize Workforce manager for proper department scheduling

* Department manager must be Serve Safe Certified (complete & pass 16 hour course)

* CGO maintained daily as per company standards

* Department supplies kept organized, properly inventoried, ordered and rotated.

· Must be thoroughly familiar and willing to comply with all priorities and store policies pertaining to the position, including punctual and reliable attendance.

· Must be able to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, percentages, gross margins and apply basic math to verify billing, cgo counts, sales and financials of department.

· Maintain a weekly buy-in program to increase department profitability

· Must have the ability to read, write, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language with sufficient proficiency.

· Must be knowledgeable in the various types of product carried in the store and the department.

· Must be able to perform all duties and responsibilities in an efficient and satisfactory manner that meets the minimum standards for productivity, accuracy, cleanliness, harmony and safety.

Physical Requirements

· Must be able to lift heavy objects occasionally.

· Must be able to climb a ladder to retrieve items from overhead racks and storage areas.

· Must be able to sweep and mop floors and lift and carry out trash containers to be emptied outside the department.

· Must have sufficient physical mobility or agility to be able to respond quickly to fire or other emergencies such as cleanup requests due to accidental spills, etc.

· Must be able to work in refrigerated coolers, freezers, hot areas with ovens and cooking and high moisture content preparation rooms for extended periods of time.

· Must be able to work in environment with fresh meat, fruit, vegetables, spices, sauces, flour and other food products without negative allergic consequences that adversely affect performance.
