Job description

Essential functions:

The Precert Specialist reports to their supervisor and Physician. This position requires hard work and dedication.

Duties:

  • Answer patient calls with the ability to help resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Carry out secretary duties such as filing, typing, scanning efficiently.
  • Schedule any test ordered by the physician and assuring the authorization is taken care of (i.e. CT scans, MRI’s, Bone Scans, Venous Doppler Ultrasound, Special scans, Synovasure).
  • Schedule any surgery or procedure ordered by the physician, which consist of obtaining patient consent, scheduling in the physician’s surgery book, scheduling in the physician’s outlook calendar if he desires, scheduling in the computer, scheduling with the outlying facility, obtaining any presurgical clearance with the patient’s cardiologist or primary care physician.
  • Addressing all faxes such as Physical therapy requests, Home Health, Correspondence, etc.
  • Learning the appropriate CPT codes to assist with the surgery charges and authorizations. You will need to learn to properly code surgeries, turn the billing into the insurance department as well as register new patients which were obtained on call.
  • Authorizing insurance for surgery, test, WC, Botox, Iovera, etc. (learning the insurances).
  • Chart auditing.
  • Completing disability forms
  • Ensuring your physician’s schedule is accurate based on his preferences.
  • Ensuring patient has all clearances, labs, xrays required for surgery. Making sure the outlying facility has all of this information including the clearance in a timely manner so that the patient does not have to be delayed or repeat any unnecessary testing.
  • Scheduling appointments which could include return patients or new patients. You will have a lot of calls sent to you to handle.
  • Handling medication calls/refills is deemed necessary by your doctor.
  • Dispense and order medications for worker’s compensation patients with appropriate paperwork.
  • Scheduling of any depositions for your physician as well as securing the payment and proper documentation needed for such. Some physicians receive deposition payments directly which are not ran through the MSO.
  • Developing a good rapport with the outlying facilities to ensure a smooth transition for your physician.
  • Willingness to help your fellow teammates and volunteer your help when needed.
  • Willingness to cross train for other jobs within the company to improve your knowledge and skills.
  • Eagerly accept any other job duty that is required of you as deemed necessary.
