Job description

GI Alliance is seeking an experienced Pre-pay Collector I.

Duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Position purpose

Make pre-payment arrangements for patients prior to procedures.

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Call patients to make pre-payment arrangements prior to procedures
  • Create pre-pay letters to mail to patients
  • Explain benefits and financial responsibility to patient with regard to schedule procedures.
  • Communicate with other offices when needed.
  • Prepare patient refund request as requested by patients.
  • Verify whether diagnosis on schedules are payable to scheduled procedure.
  • Review past pathology reports to find type of previous polyps when patient is being seen with personal history of polyps to determine patient benefits.
  • Review records for a medical diagnosis that may require patients benefits to be filed as a diagnostic test.
  • Review records to confirm true screening and that patient has not had polyps removed in past colonoscopies.
  • Refer complex issues to the supervisor for review and or action.
  • Provide quality service to patients.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills are required
  • Experience working in a medical office
  • Thorough understanding of medical terminology as it related to CPT and ICD10 coding rules.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented
  • Be able to read and understand medical benefits.
  • Bilingual is a plus.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Experience: 2-5 years of prior pre-pay collection/collections experience is preferred.

Requirements for Level I Status:

  • Entry level (1-4 years experience) and/or meet the basic requirements of the job with the need for additional supervision.
  • Excess of 4 years experience if meeting only the basic requirements of the job with need for additional supervision.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proficient technical (computer) skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize.
  • Self-motivated with initiative.
  • Strong sense of ethics.
