Responsibilities:
- The Pre-op and Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) registered nurse delivers pre-procedural and post-procedural high-quality care for pediatric through geriatric age range of patients with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Provides care and teaching for patients who will have or have had sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures focusing on the phase I recovery, phase II recovery, and/or extended observation nursing care.
- Nursing practice is systematic, integrative and holistic, and involves assessment, critical thinking, clinical decision making and inquiry.
- The PACU nurse works in perioperative services which serves outpatient pain clinic, infusion services, and surgical patients.
- Admits and performs a systematic and thorough physical assessment based upon knowledge of the physiology of patients who will have or have had sedation/analgesia and/or anesthesia for surgical, diagnostic or therapeutic procedures.
- Ensures that required documentation is in the medical record.
- Carries out physician orders and administers prescribed medications, applies dressings and monitors vital signs, as well as assists provider during bedside procedures.
- Communicates changes to the physician.
- Provides patients and family with pertinent preoperative and postoperative patient teaching.
- Possesses excellent patient discharge teaching skills and is knowledgeable in all areas of surgical specialties.
- Participates in post-operative calls and analysis of charts.
- Orients and mentors new staff members and participates in unit based competencies and process improvement projects.
- Identifies the post-surgical patient at risk for complications and provides appropriate interventions.
- Ability to manage multiple lines and medications
Pay: $40.00 - $45.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 36 per week
