Pre-K Teacher Assistant for 2023-2024 School Year
Job Description
Reports to and works with the classroom Lead Teacher, is supervised by the building principal. Responsible for assisting the classroom Lead Teacher with instructional and general supervision and management of the class.
Qualifications:
Must have a warm and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well to children, and be willing to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the Trenton Special School District policies and philosophy. Must be at least 18 years old and receive a passing score on the ParaPro Examination.
Minimum Educational Requirement
A CDA (state funded pre-k) or equivalent, or be working towards this credential

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:
- Assist in planning and implementing the daily program under the direction of the Lead Teacher, which includes lesson plans
- Assist in planning and preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies
- Supervise the classroom when the Lead Teacher is out of the room.
- Help with the general housekeeping tasks
- Assist the Lead Teacher in other ways as requested
- Maintain a professional attitude and loyalty to the District at all times
- Treat all children with dignity and respect
- Assist Lead Teacher with implementation of appropriate early childhood education experiences
- Help Lead Teacher to supervise and promote activities designed to enhance the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children
- Help to maintain a neat and organized classroom.
- Help children establish good habits of personal hygiene; change diapers and assist with toilet training.
- Supervise activities to ensure safety of students at all times.
Physical Requirements:
Must have the ability to:
- Lift up to 40 pounds
- Work with children on the floor
- Work outdoors in any variety of weather
- Repetitive bending, stretching, and stooping
- Climb up and down stairs
- Have mobility required to ensure the safety of the children
- Have visual and hearing capabilities that allow consistent supervision of children
- Perform light duty cleaning
- Assist in bus loading and unloading
- Provide extra assistance to students with special needs, such as non-English-speaking students or those with physical and mental disabilities
