- Create a developmentally appropriate pre-kindergarten program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth
- Establish effective rapport with students and their families
- Motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for Elementary School
- Establish good relationships with other staff members and community agencies
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Other duties may be assigned.
The educational technician:
- Assists in planning and evaluating daily classroom activities
- Communicates effectively with pre-kindergarten children 3-5 years of age and adults from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds
- Assists in completing/maintaining accurate student files, forms, and reports to document and track the needs of students and services provided on a timely basis
- Assists in establishing trusting relationships with children and families; welcome, encourage, and support parent participation in the program, and maintain the confidentiality of families, staff and program
- Communicates regularly with students' families by means of home visits, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior that lead to an effective learning atmosphere
- Assists in identifying student needs and making appropriate referrals
- Works with other support staff and district specialists as appropriate
- Assists in providing individualized and small group instruction to meet the needs of each student
- Assists in creating an environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, interest centers, and exhibits of students' work
- Attends required workshops and meetings

Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
- Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent
- Ability to create and interpret graphs
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but involved written or oral instructions
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Other Skills and Abilities:
- Previous experience in preschool or primary education
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and School Committee policies
