The Practical Nursing Instructor position is a 12-month full-time faculty position for the Practical Nursing program on Georgia Piedmont Technical College's Newton County Campus. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Health, Education, Public and Professional Services, the faculty member will provide theory and practical instruction sufficient for students to develop the skills necessary to become employed in the Practical Nursing profession. The position requires the supervision of students during patient care and requires flexibility to teach day or evening classes as well as 12-hour clinical rotations on weekdays and/or weekends. In addition:
- Develops program and syllabi, goals and objectives. Evaluates students' progress in attaining goals and objectives.
- Prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credit technical/occupational courses.
- Requests and maintains supplies and equipment.
- Maintains program certification requirements, as appropriate.
- Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports.
- Attends staff development training, workshops, seminars and conferences.
- Ensures safety and security requirements are met in the training area.
- Meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students' instructional programs and other issues.
- Assists with recruitment, retention and job placement efforts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in nursing from a regionally accredited college or university and completed courses comparable to the curriculum taught or experience/expertise in the area of curriculum taught. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned. Must be a Registered Nurse and possess a current Georgia license in good standing and hold current CPR certification. Must have extensive experience in Medical Surgical Nursing with the last five years or more.
The candidate must have at least 5 years of clinical experience within the past seven years. Medical-Surgical nursing experience is preferred. Work experience should include those competencies, skills, and knowledge levels which the instructor will be expected to teach. Occupational experience must meet the current requirements of the appropriate licensing boards for the area of instruction. Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communications skills.
