The Public Relations Manager is responsible for developing and implementing Public Relations and media strategy, building the reputation and ensuring effective media coverage for Moody Gardens, as well as providing guidance for the development of internal and external communications program, special events and marketing programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop and strengthen relationships with journalists and key influencers
- Create press releases and corresponding content to be used on social media
- Disseminate all press materials and alerts to local, state and national mass and trade media
- Pitch story ideas and conduct interviews with the news media
- Participate in regional media tours
- Supervise the Communications Coordinator in regard to internal and external communications activities.
- Provide assistance if needed for crisis communications.
- Develop publicity campaigns for ongoing attractions, events and education programs at Moody Gardens
- Assist the Marketing Director with the planning and implementation of marketing plan for Moody Gardens
- Provide updates to the website and social media if needed
- Prepares and disseminates information to community and professional organizations, educational institutions, and other external audiences as appropriate
- Maintain media and marketing research database
- Track publicity and advertising value for all print and media coverage
- Provide assistance with photography and video editing if needed
- Provide assistance with graphic design for support materials, displays, and advertising and promotion if needed
- Coordinate special events and activities for the public and media as needed
- Serve as support liaison for outside agency services as needed
- Catalog and archive all promotional and marketing materials
- Any and all other duties as assigned; duties are subject to change as management deems necessary to best serve the needs of Moody Gardens
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- College Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism or related field required
- Minimum of 5 years prior required
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Must be personable, reliable, and responsible
- Ability to handle multiple projects with competing deadlines
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with knowledge of journalism writing and editing techniques including AP Style.
- Strong background in public speaking
- Proficient use of computers required
- Proficient use of Adobe software including Photoshop and Acrobat. MS Office software required. Knowledge of HTML and Adobe Premiere is beneficial but not required.
