.Power Production Engineer I-IV (Integrated Resource Planning) HYBRID Position

Salary: BOE

Power Production Engineer I

Salary Grade: G08

Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training. Annual cyber security training is also required.

SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, performs assignments designed to develop engineering work knowledge and abilities through the application of standard techniques, practices, and procedures. Provides entry-level engineering support for small and repetitive generation projects. Conducts small or repetitive studies or participates in larger studies where project performance, cost, and scheduling are the key factors of evaluation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides entry-level engineering support to the generation assets
  • Provides troubleshooting, condition assessment, vendor capability determination, and test and repair procedures
  • Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations
  • Develops and implements projects and provides task updates
  • Creates and reviews work scopes, modifies/creates operating procedures, updates drawings, and reviews designs
  • Writes capital budget requests and provides justification for areas assigned
  • Oversees vendor supplied equipment
  • Represents the Company on fundamental technical matters
  • Ensures safety and consistency of engineering results by following Company and industry standards
  • Provides occasional entry-level technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and lower-level personnel

COMPETENCIES:

  • Knowledge and ability to interpret and apply appropriate basic and well-established principles, practices, regulations, codes, and standards
  • Confident working in and around high temperatures, pressures, voltage (up to 345kV), and large rotating equipment
  • Ability to translate theory and physics to power plant applications
  • Previous project experience
  • Demonstrates good leadership skills

QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from a four year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET), with one to three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience related to the discipline.
  • Project experience is required.
  • Three or more years of on-site plant engineering experience is preferred.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, interpret various documents and apply national, state, and local codes and standards
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, write speeches, and presentations
  • Ability to speak effectively before various groups

COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • In depth knowledge of personal computers
  • In depth knowledge of electrical engineering design, computer aided design, project management, word processing, spreadsheet, and database software

ANALYSIS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in complicated situations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking necessary. May need to crouch, bend, and climb. Will be exposed to outside elements and will work at various heights. May lift 50 pounds or less. Protective equipment required includes a hard hat, safety glasses, and hearing protection. Will work around operating machinery, pressure piping, pressure vessels, electricity, computers, office equipment, and construction equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Time will be divided between office and field. This position may be located at either coal fired or gas turbine generating sites within the Energy Resources generating asset fleet. Must be comfortable working in a coal fired or gas turbine generation site.

Power Production Engineer IV

Salary Grade: G05

SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, manages large and significant engineering projects and/or a number of small and complex projects. Acts as a staff advisor and consultant. Provides diverse and advanced engineering and project management expertise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages engineering aspects of large generation projects or many smaller projects
  • Provides troubleshooting, condition assessment, vendor capability determination, and test and repair procedures
  • Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse groups
  • Develops and implements projects and provides task updates
  • Creates and reviews work scopes, modifies/creates operating procedures, updates drawings, and reviews designs
  • Writes capital budget requests and provides justification for assigned areas
  • Oversees vendor supplied equipment
  • Leads or conducts performance, cost, and scheduling studies/evaluations that require advanced and innovative techniques and/or the modifications of standard practices and precepts
  • Represents the Company's interests in advanced engineering matters
  • Provides technical support, direction, and activity supervision to contractors and other associates
  • Identifies and resolves broad technical and/or organizational issues affecting the Company's goals and objectives
  • Applies extensive engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards
  • Functions as a supervisor for staff engineers, professionals, technicians, and others

COMPETENCIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of and ability to apply diverse engineering principles and economic and decision analysis studies of complex issues to area problems including generation, process, fuels, planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations
  • Ability to translate theory and physics to power plant applications
  • Comfortable working in and around high temperatures, pressures, voltages (up to 345kV), and large rotating equipment
  • Ability to provide the operational areas with highly skilled and diversified expertise
  • Demonstrate good leadership skills

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Promotion to Power Production Engineer IV requires that there be a business need for this level of engineer.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • Professional Engineer's License in the State of New Mexico is preferred.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides advanced and often highly innovative technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and Company personnel on an as needed basis. May function as a supervisor and/or provide training for staff engineers, professionals, technicians, and others. Identifies personnel requirements, set schedules, and assigns work.
