Power of Experience Program Coordinator and Academic Counselor, Stellyes Center for Global Studies  Knox College invites applications for a Power of Experience Program Coordinator and Academic Counselor for the Stellyes Center for Global Studies. The position coordinates all funding requests to the Power of Experience grant program. Additional primary responsibility include student academic support and administrative implementation for all aspects of study abroad, student-exchange, off-campus study, and the Peace Corps Preparatory Program  at Knox. This is a full time 11-month salaried position with benefits, reporting to the Director of the Stellyes Center for Global Studies and collaborates  with the Provost & Dean of the College and the Vice President for Student Development regarding the Power of Experience Program.
Power of Experience Program CoordinatorEducate and advise students regarding the Power of Experience Grant by facilitating information sessions (at least one per term), holding virtual  and in-person office hours, and developing online resources.Support students as they formulate proposals and budgets to take advantage of the academic and experiential benefits of Collaborate with the Provost & Dean of the College and the Vice President for Student Development to set and refine Power of Experience guidelines, address unanticipated policy questions, and assess the program’s effectiveness.Maintain comprehensive records and support assessment of the program to gauge its effectiveness.Day-to-day implementation of the Power of Experience Grant process, including:In consultation with the Registrar’s Office, notify students two terms prior to eligibility that they are able to utilize their Power of Experience Grants.Facilitate the application process by distributing applications to eligible students, assisting students with the application process as necessary, receiving applications, and ensuring they are complete.Distribute award letters to students and track receipt of signed liability waivers. Track receipt of completed reflection essays and communicate with students as needed to ensure submission. Maintain records of individual student use of grants, collect receipts from students and process them in coordination with Business Office, and track any remaining grant amounts.Monitor the powerofexperience@knox.edu email and respond to all questions in a timely manner. Communicate grant amounts to the Business Office and provide reports quarterly (or as requested) to the Provost/Dean of the College and the Vice President for Student Development.


Academic Counselor, Stellyes Center for Global Studies Serves as first point-of-contact for visitors to the Stellyes Center, providing information on off-campus study opportunities and maintaining informational materials available in the Center.Administrative support for off-campus study fairs and information sessions.Provides guidance to applicants to the online off-campus study application.Correspondence with applicants regarding applications and enrollment procedures for off-campus study programs. Management of research and travel awards by the Center.Management of international travel insurance enrollment.Maintenance of detailed, continually updated records of budgets and receipts for Knox off-campus and study abroad programs, students participating in study abroad, approval of student worker hours, processing of reimbursement and expense requests, monthly credit-card reconciliation, and maintenance of confidential budgetary records for the Center. Responsibilities also include general clerical tasks (copying, photocopying and printing, typing, purchasing); providing guidance on travel arrangements and insurance coverage for students and faculty going abroad; supporting campus visitors sponsored by the Center; maintaining annual memberships and dues; and assisting with campus events.


Qualifications:Associates degree and five or more years experience in academic program management and/or student advising. Bachelor’s degree preferred.  Advanced ability in spreadsheet creation and budget analysis. Computer skills, including creating and maintaining spreadsheets, word processing, data entry, record-keeping, budgeting, and web-based applications (e.g. Google apps, Google spreadsheets). Ability to respond to multiple demands and manage deadlines and tasks with minimal oversight. In addition, the successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills with diverse students, staff and faculty; good verbal and written communications skills; the ability to work independently and in a team environment; a strong work ethic; and Experience in working in a diverse intercultural educational environment.  International travel experience, second language ability, or interest in global issues are desirable but not required.
