The posted salary range budgeted for this position is between $5,521.58 and $7,288.58 monthly. New hires will be typically brought into the agency at a starting salary between the posted minimum and the average pay of employees in their same classification in the Office of Technology unless the average pay exceeds the midpoint for the state position's classification salary group. Offers will be commensurate with the candidate's experience and qualifications and will thoughtfully consider internal pay equity for agency staff who perform similar duties and have similar qualifications. The top half of the posted salary range is generally reserved for candidates who far exceed the requirements and qualifications for the role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
In the era of data-driven decision-making, Power BI has emerged as a game-changer for organizations. Power BI is swiftly becoming a powerful business intelligence tool that allows organizations to visualize, analyze, and share insights from their data. Behind the scenes, there's a critical role that ensures Power BI's capabilities are harnessed effectively-the Power BI Developer. At TEA, the Power BI Developer is responsible for transforming raw data into relevant insights via interactive and simple-to-understand dashboards and reports. This role supports a wide range of users. It is essential that the Power BI Developer establishes and adheres to best practices in user support and planned changes, collaborating with other IT support groups as required. This role sits in the Office of Information Technology and requires occasional after-hours work.
Flexible work location within the state of Texas may be considered for qualified candidates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Serves as the subject matter expert for creating interactive and visually appealing reports and dashboards that provide meaningful insights to stakeholders
• Acts as a technical expert addressing problems in data modeling, ETL, Power Query, SQL statements and databases
• Develops architectural plans supportive of the business objectives of the application area; documents architecture appropriately and consistently within the defined architectural process
• Ensure compliance with Security & Change Control Policy
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university
Experience: At least five [5] years of experience in overseeing and managing software applications, including installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting, to ensure smooth operation and user satisfaction; experience in data modeling, data analysis, and report creating work and expertise in assisting customers with data analysis and visualization is preferred.
Substitutions: Each additional year of related experience above the required minimum may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
• Background with BI tools and systems such as Power BI, SAS/VA
• Prior experience in data-related tasks including the ability to leverage analytical thinking for converting data into relevant reports and graphics
• Proficient in report development, including an understanding of how to share reports and dashboards with stakeholders, and work with settings like sharing permissions, embedding reports, and managing workspaces
• Ability to configure Data Gateway
• Ability to schedule data refreshes
• Ability to run DAX queries on Power BI desktop
• Familiarity with MS Power Platform tools and technologies, such as Power Apps, Power Pages, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents
• Capable of enabling different levels of data security
• Proficient in doing advanced-level computations on the data set, and understanding of the workflow and process requirements of complex application systems
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with proficiency in analytical tools
• Prior experience in middleware, container, and container orchestration tools
• Strong verbal and written communication, along with negotiation skills
• Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and proactive in taking initiative
• Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment
• Quick and proficient learner of other technologies to support tools team as needed
