Shift: 6am-6pm
Pay Range: $29.76/hour
Martin Marietta is currently looking for a Powder Person at our Stamper Mine. This position is responsible for placing and detonating explosives in an underground mining environment.
Essential Functions
- Participate in safety programs and trainings, promoting Martin Marietta’s Guardian Angel culture
- Responsible for safe equipment operations
- Examine blast areas to determine amounts/types of explosives needed
- Perform required safety exams and pre-shift inspections
- Ability to safety lift, carry and handle explosive materials
- Ability to work at elevated work position
- Track inventories of explosive materials and maintain clear blasting documentation
- Ability to learn and operate equipment ensuring safe equipment operation
- Establish and maintain effective communication within all areas of operation
- Ensures compliance with safety policies and procedures.
- Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position and will require 40+ hours per week in an underground mine setting.
Preferred Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Heavy equipment operations or military experience preferred
- Experience in quarry or mine environment
- Must be able to pass federal background check
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of MSHA regulations
- Effective verbal communication
- Knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and tools including their design, use, and maintenance
Physical Abilities
- Ability to work in an underground mining environment.
- General physical activities including climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, reach with hands and arms, and handling materials.
