Postsecondary Success Coordinator (PartTime)


The Durham Public Schools Foundation seeks a College Access Coordinator (PartTime) to manage and support Durham's Academic Success Alliance. This is a part-time position with flexible hours.

The Durham Public Schools Foundation (DPSF) launched in the fall of 2018 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit that unites our DPS school communities, public- and private-sector resources, and community leaders around strategies to strengthen our Durham public schools. It was founded by a group of Durham community leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, parents, and DPS alumni.

About Durham's Academic Success Alliance

Durham's Academic Success Alliance is a collective that includes DPSF, Student U, Durham Children's Initiative, Durham Public Schools, The Emily K Center, MyFuture NC, Durham Technical Community College, and Duke College Advising Corps. The collective works to ensure postsecondary access for all Durham Public Schools students.


The Alliance works with these shared goals in mind

  • Create a shared vision of postsecondary education access for DPS students
  • Build shared knowledge among partners, including sharing data and training
  • Foster collaboration and strategically align support and resources to strengthen postsecondary access for DPS students
  • Identify gaps in the continuum of support and collectively strategize to fill gaps


College Access Coordinator

The Durham Public Schools Foundation seeks a part-time College Access Coordinator to support and expand the work of the Academic Success Alliance. This position will help coordinate and facilitate collective meetings and events, ensuring more access and help for Durham's Juniors and Seniors. We seek a collaborative, organized individual with strong communication skills and experience engaging with various community members and stakeholders.


The College Access Coordinator is a part-time role offering $25 an hour for a maximum of 10 hours a week. Additional benefits include a $500 Wellness Stipend that staff can access through a reimbursement process for qualifying expenses (such as therapy, gym membership, etc.) and a $750 Professional Development budget that staff can access for pursuing their ongoing professional growth (additional professional development funds can be requested). DPSF also provides generous vacation time.

Working hours for this position are flexible. DPSF staff is working hybrid, and all team members can access our workspace in the W.G. Pearson Center in Durham, NC.


The range of responsibilities will include:

*Conducting surveys and gathering feedback to identify student and family engagement barriers.

*Increase underserved family participation in ASA events.

*Collaborate with high school counselors to enhance student participation in school-level postsecondary education financial events.

*Develop a comprehensive online resource for underserved families to access postsecondary education resources.

*Facilitate regular meetings with Academic Success Alliance partners, vendors, etc.


Competitive applicants for the College Access Coordinator position will have the following skills:

*Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging to diverse audiences

*Organized with strong attention to detail

*Comfort working in a fast-paced, start-up environment

*Collaborative team player coupled with the ability to work independently

*Strong network of the postsecondary education community

*Strong partnership-building and meeting facilitation skills

*Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus
