Job description

The grant-funded "Global Asias Initiative: Reframing Asian American Studies and Asian Studies at UMBC" announces a new Postdoctoral Fellowship in Global Asias. This search is for an interdisciplinary, humanities-based scholar, trained in Asian American studies, to fill a two-year postdoctoral position (beginning late August, 2024) in the Asian Studies Program, with the possibility of beginning a tenure-track assistant professorship at the conclusion of the grant. The ideal candidate will pursue research activities, teach a 0-1 course load, and help develop programming for the Global Asias Initiative in collaboration with the project's leadership team. They will be supported by a network of mentors who help them embark on an academic career and chart their pathway to intellectual leadership by way of sharing knowledge, expanding opportunities, and mentorship and stewardship.

This two-year fellowship offers a competitive salary of $62,500 plus fringe benefits, a $5,000 research fund per year, and up to $3,000 in moving expenses. A review of applications beginning immediately. The successful candidate will be notified by mid-late April 2024, and will begin the fellowship August 23, 2024. 

Candidates may have a Ph.D. in a variety of subjects including: Asian American Studies; Ethnic Studies; American Studies; Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; cultural or literary studies; and/or other transdisciplinary approaches to the humanities are especially welcome, as are socially-engaged scholars and researchers with community collaborative or community outreach experience. 

To be eligible, applicants must have completed their Ph.D. in their field when the two-year term of appointment commences on August 23, 2024, and no earlier than May 1, 2021. Applicants should not currently hold a tenure-track position.
