Job Summary:
This position is grant funded.The Center for Indigenous HealthResearch and Policy (CIHRP) at Oklahoma State University Center for HealthSciences is a leading research center for Indigenous health (www.indigenoushealth.com). Our annual research budget totals more than $10 millionand focuses on improving the health of American Indian, Alaska Native, andNative Hawaiian communities through innovative health promotion and diseaseprevention efforts. We also house the Center for Indigenous Innovation andHealth Equity, funded by the Office of Minority Health, and the newly-funded IndigenousFood Ecologies and Health Initaitive. These efforts support community basedparticipatory research in the areas of food sovereignty and food security,nutrition, mental health, cardiometabolic disease risk reduction, and culturally-centeredintervention science.
We are seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in health promotion anddisease prevention in Indigenous communities. The fellow will have theopportunity to participate in the design and implementation of interventions toreduce cardiometabolic disease risks including food system and food sovereigntyinterventions, nutrition, stress management, and culturally-centered Indigenoushealth and wellness initiatives.
The idealcandidate will have familiarity with community-based participatory research,conducting data collection and analysis, and writing manuscripts. The candidatewill work directly with Indigenous communities in Oklahoma and across theUnited States. The candidate will be well supported in manuscript writing andpresentations at national conferences. If interested, the fellow will also havesupport and opportunities for mentored grantsmanship (e.g., K-seriesapplications).
University, and Environment: Oklahoma StateUniversity Center for Health Sciences is located in Tulsa, Oklahoma on MuskogeeCreek Nation lands. Tulsa is a bustling small city, with an extensive trail andpark system, and extensive dining and shopping opportunities. As an academicmedical system, training and research are integrated with provision of clinicalcare through specialty clinics and in our hospital setting.
Responsibilities:- Engaging with Indigenous communities in community-basedparticipatory research
- Recruitingand retaining study participants in research trials
- Manuscriptpreparation and submission
- Datacollection activities with Indigenous adults and children
- Dataanalysis
The fellow will have opportunities to workwithin a broad national network of Indigenous scholars and communities.
Work hours must be flexible to include evenings andweekends when necessary

Physical Requirements:Ability to lift and carry 8-10 pounds, stoop, reach, stand, walk, finger,grasp, feel, talk, hear, see, and perform repetitive motions with or withoutreasonable accommodations.

Education & Experience
Position Qualifications:
Required:- DrPH or Ph.D. in Public Health, Psychology, Sociology, or a related discipline
- Applicants must have good scientific writing skills with a solid publication record, clinical research experience, and strong quantitative data analytic skills
Preferences:- Applicants with experience working in the fields of intervention science, cardiometabolic disease risk reduction, nutrition, health promotion, and/or previous study coordination experience on Federally-funded studies will be given preference
