pursue a path leading to college and/or a career in the architecture, engineering, or
construction industries.

The Role
AECI is actively seeking a Post-Secondary Counselor for an immediate hire. Our Post-Secondary
Counselors work hand in hand with our students and families to ensure they find the post-
secondary path that is right for them. The Postsecondary Counselor is part of a two-person
team who will execute the vision for the postsecondary program, which is designed to ensure
that every graduate commits and is able to be successful in their postsecondary plan. This
position will report directly to the Director of Postsecondary Counseling.
Projected Start Date: February 1 st , 2024
Responsibilities
The Post-Secondary Counselor will:
- Teach 12th grade Post-Secondary Planning courses in which you will guide students through the entire college application and financial aid process.
- Work collaboratively with our dedicated advisory teacher to provide Early College and Career Awareness curriculum for grades 9-11. This includes (but is not limited to) exploring careers, identifying most appropriate post-secondary pathways, writing personal statements, building resumes, securing letters of recommendation, and understanding financial aid and scholarships.
- Develop college lists with students, based on their academics, preparedness skills, and family's financial background.
- Build a culture of college and career readiness by creating informative presentations and signage, advising students, and helping plan and execute events such as our Post-Secondary Fair, college trips, Decision Day, Alumni Day, Career Day, college visits.
- Implement and maintain detailed tracking systems.
- Work with parents and families to provided informational workshops, financial aid completion workshops and 1:1 meetings with senior families.
- Create and Manage relationships with college admissions professionals to improve school visibility leading to recruitment of our students by colleges and universities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities relating to college counseling and college admissions at the local and state levels.
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in college access with students from diverse socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of barriers faced by low income, first generation, and/or underrepresented students.
- Ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
- Ability to communicate well with others and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students, parents, colleagues and community members.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with the high school's administration, faculty, and staff.
- Skilled in using data to drive improvements in the college counseling process.
- Strong digital literacy, including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, G-Suite, Naviance, and PowerSchool.
- Required Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of two years experience in an urban district or charter school setting.
