The position provides an opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary and multi-institution research environment studying the role that executive control processes play in reading and math achievement and frequently associated clinical syndromes (e.g., ADHD).
Individuals will have the opportunity to work on neuroimaging studies that focus on neural systems as they relate to academic, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes in late childhood to early adolescence. Research opportunities will include involvement in the collection and analysis of data from to-be-initiated neuroimaging studies, manuscript writing, travel and conference presentations, and support for writing mentored grant proposals. In addition, two large, formerly collected datasets on related topics are available for investigation.
Former postdoctoral fellows have been highly successful, including attaining tenure-track positions at R1 universities and securing independent NIH funding. Who We Are This position will be associated with the Intermountain Neuromaging Consortium (INC) at the University of Colorado Boulder under the direction of Prof. Marie Banich. INC provides excellent data acquisition, storage and analysis facilities, as well as highly trained staff to aid in data acquisition and analysis (https://www.colorado.edu/mri/).
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be The successful candidate will be responsible for aiding in the creation, implementation, analysis and dissemination of results of neuroimaging experiments designed to investigate the neural underpinnings of executive control as it interfaces with reading and math achievement. It is expected that the successful candidate will work with staff at INC as well as playing a role in supervision of research assistants associated with the project to meet these goals. They will also be responsible for the vast majority of data analysis.
In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for taking the lead on writing the publications that result from this research. What You Should Know This fulltime position is appointed in one-year intervals, with re-appointments anticipated in years 2 and 3 (contingent upon satisfactory performance). What We Can Offer The salary range for this appointment is $56,500-$61,500 depending on prior training and experience; modest relocation funds may be available.
Mentoring will be provided by Prof. Banich, who has a long history of successfully supervising post-doctoral fellows in line with their career goals, as well as mentoring by other faculty within the Learning Disability Research Center. What We Require Basic Requirements: PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Educational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Neuropsychology, Computer Science or related discipline. Programming skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, Bash shell scripting). Demonstrated record of innovative scientific research in neuroimaging.
Strong skills in the usage of one or more common neuroimaging packages (e.g., FSL, SPM, AFNI). Strong communication skills in spoken and written English. Ability to work both independently and within an interdisciplinary team, providing training and mentorship to students and researchers as appropriate.
Authorized to work in the United States. What You Will Need Ideal candidates should be highly motivated to publish first-author papers and present at conferences, and should possess a background in functional neuroimaging, advanced statistics and computational expertise, strong experimental and scientific writing skills, ability to work in a team environment, and be self-motivated. Additional desired strengths include competence in MRI data acquisition/analysis (e.g., FSL, SPM, and/or AFNI) and programming and analytic skills (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, and/or Bash shell scripting).
