Description
Loyola University New Orleans College of Business seeks a mid-level career/advisor for its Business Portfolio Career Development Program (Portfolio), a four-year student-centered in-house business career center and professional development program required for undergraduate business students. The program has a 97% satisfaction rate with our graduating seniors and is entering its 15th year. This position allows for frequent, meaningful interaction with students in workshops and one-on-one settings. It provides an opportunity to work with students from freshmen year through graduation - assisting in their personal and professional growth and development over four years. And, you get to do all this in the vibrant city of New Orleans. Our small, picturesque campus is located directly across from Audubon Park - a star feature of the city.
The College of Business offers eight business majors and has over 500 undergraduates enrolled on campus. This position works closely with the Portfolio Director, Portfolio Coordinator, and other staff and collaborates with the College of Business faculty and staff and Loyola's Career Development Center. This is a full-time, twelve-month, professional staff position with full benefit coverage. Start date available May 2024.
Examples of Duties
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Assisting first-year students in academic advising and all business students in various aspects of personal and professional development, including one-on-one coaching, goal-setting, career exploration, resume writing, interviewing, and networking;
  • Developing presentations and materials related to personal and professional development;
  • Meeting with students one-on-one and in group settings to discuss course schedules, career goals, majors, and other things as they relate to career development;
  • Presenting career-related workshops;
  • Assisting in planning and implementing networking events and employer development programs;
  • Working with faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College of Business to promote opportunities for students while demonstrating student retention best practices;
  • Assisting with the analysis of end-of-year survey data, and tracking and assessing Portfolio outcomes;
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Portfolio.

Typical Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree;
  • Minimum of three years experience in a high school or college setting working directly with students or experience working in a business field;
  • Demonstrated experience in student coaching and advising, event planning, programming, and presenting;
  • Excellent oral, written, and communication skills;
  • Excellent time management skills;
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite, LinkedIn, Career Shift, and Handshake;
  • Ability to adapt to fast-paced, student-centered environments;
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously;
  • Demonstrated experience working with on-campus and off-campus partners.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Personnel/Higher Education, Business or Related Field;
  • 3+ years experience working specifically with college student population;
  • Knowledge of college student development theory;
  • Use of social media or mass messaging platforms helpful;
