Here is an opportunity to join one of the most well-known companies in the Maritime Industry. Moran Towing Corporation (www.morantug.com) has an opportunity available for a Port Engineer, forMoran New Orleans. This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position reporting to the General Manager.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Port Engineer is the lead engineer for the local Moran New Orleans fleet and reports directly to the General Manager, Moran New Orleans. Meticulous coordination and communication with the General Manager and Operations Manager, Moran New Orleans is essential. This position includes accepting a high level of accountability and displaying strong initiative for the operation and maintenance of the tug fleet and support assets of the division, including providing direct support to the tug engineers. Effective communication, coordination, and personnel interface are key to the success of this position. The Port Engineer is required to be fully conversant with, and continually set a good example of, safe working practices per Moran's Mission Statement and Safety Management System (SMS).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED, TO:

Manages Local Engineering Activities

  • Actively pursues safety improvements per our Mission Statement.
  • Reviews Daily Engineering Reports from vessels.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with the Preventive Maintenance Plan/FleetCheck.
  • Manages and completes vessel repairs, and ensures comments for open repair items are kept up to date in Moran's OMS system.
  • Completes capital improvement projects.
  • Ensures regulatory and class requirements are met.
  • Purchases Engine Department spares and consumables.
  • Oversees Engineer development, training, and qualifications.
  • Seeks out and implements cost-saving measures, where appropriate.
  • Maintains an intimate knowledge of each vessel's systems and status.
  • Maintains corporate databases as they apply to the Engineering Department.
  • Participates in the Moran New Orleans engineering weekend and after-hours rotating duty schedule.
  • Visits the tugs frequently to monitor engineering activities, assists in/implements necessary repairs; and ensures engine rooms and workspaces are kept in a clean, oil-free condition.

Interfaces with Corporate Construction and Repair Department

  • Seeks guidance and approval on major repairs, modifications, or equipment overhauls.
  • Assists with specifications and completion of vessel dry dockings.
  • Shares information relevant to Moran's comprehensive fleet.

Maintains Shoreside Engineering Facilities and Support Equipment

  • Ensures Regulatory compliance as applicable.
  • Maintains and tracks inventory as required.
  • Ensures readiness of support equipment.
  • Ensures the shoreside warehouse, engineering offices, and training building are kept clean and orderly.

Manages Local Vendor Relationships

  • Vets and selects vendors.
  • Coordinates and schedules vendors.
  • Ensures Quality Control and SMS conformance relating to vendor behavior and performance.
  • Reviews and approves vendor invoicing.

Manages Direct Reports

  • Delegates tasks to the Port Technicians, as appropriate, to maintain the operational capabilities of the New Orleans tug fleet.
  • Ensures the Port Technicians satisfactorily meet their job requirements and participate in on-going, relevant training as circumstances permit.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced Marine Engineering expertise evidenced by at least BS degree in Marine Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Five or more years of relevant engineering experience in a licensed capacity, and past or current USCG engineering licensure.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain TWIC documentation (including meeting the physical requirements of the USCG 719K physical exam).
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Demonstrated good judgment, work flexibility, and high level of initiative and organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Hours of work are Moran New Orleans business hours Monday through Friday, with the incumbent expected to be available, when required, during off-hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to travel when required, including air travel.
