We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Polymer Chemist to join our diverse team! As a key contributor in the development of advanced Separator Materials for lithium-ion battery applications. The successful candidate will have a deep understanding of Polymer Chemistry, hands-on experience in coating polyolefin base membranes, and a proven track record of commercializing separators to improve battery safety and performance.

•Lead the design, development, and optimization of Separator Materials for lithium-ion batteries, with a focus on enhancing safety and performance through innovative coating techniques. •Apply your expertise in both organic and inorganic chemistry to create novel functionalization strategies for polyolefin base membranes. •Collaborate closely with multi-functional teams including materials scientists, engineers, and battery researchers to integrate novel Separator Materials into battery systems. •Plan and conduct experiments to synthesize and characterize separator coatings, using a variety of analytical techniques to assess their physical, chemical, and electrochemical properties. •Evaluate and select appropriate additives, binders, and functional agents to achieve desired separator performance characteristics. •Solve and resolve any technical challenges related to Separator Materials and their integration within battery systems. •Stay ahead of with the latest advancements in the field of lithium-ion battery materials and Polymer Chemistry, and apply this knowledge to drive innovation in separator technology.

BS + 10 years of relevant industry experience Ph.D. in Polymer Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. Postdoctoral research related to battery materials is a plus.

- BS + 10 years of relevant industry experience
- Strong background in polymer synthesis, modification, and characterization techniques.
- Proven expertise in designing and implementing coating processes for polyolefin base membranes, with a focus on enhancing separator properties.
- In-depth understanding of organic and inorganic chemistry principles and their application to functionalizing materials.
- Proficiency in a range of analytical techniques such as SEM, TEM, FTIR, XPS, and electrochemical analysis for material characterization.
- Demonstrated ability to independently plan, implement, and analyze experiments, as well as solve technical challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate within multidisciplinary teams and present findings to collaborators.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a creative mentality to drive innovation in Separator Materials.
- Experience in battery research and an understanding of lithium-ion battery components and performance factors is highly desirable.

- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $160,700 and $282,500, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
