The Opportunity

We are currently hiring for MULTIPLEPolicy & Performance Underwriter Leads. As a Policy & Performance Underwriter Lead, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, implementing, and managing personal lines P&C Underwriting policies and processes to achieve enterprise priorities. You will also partner with internal stakeholders to maintain P&C Underwriting policies and procedures while ensuring compliance with state regulations. Ensures implementation of complex projects throughout a line of business or specific area.

This position can work remotely in the continental U.S. with occasional business travel.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead and provide guidance to others on the development and implementation of underwriting guidelines, controls, and strategies for all P&C Lines of Business to achieve P&C outcomes.
  • Own and manage a complex body(ies) of work that deliver on strategic underwriting priorities by independently gathering qualitative and quantitative analytical data to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite for product acceptability.
  • Acts as a key contributor in developing underwriting educational programs/tools, training/mentoring, and communications to internal and external audiences to include P&C EMG, P&C President, and the Board.
  • Provide direction to resolve risks or impediments, mentors, and shares industry knowledge and experience with other employees.
  • Independently gather qualitative and quantitative analytical data, and teaches others on the utilization of data, to conduct root cause analysis to proactively evaluate and recommend changes to or establish a point of view on the Underwriting appetite or other underwriting processes.
  • Serve as a delegate for leadership.
  • Communicate and share information across P&C and the Enterprise, tailors messaging for audiences ranging from peers to senior executives.
  • Lead the development of large-scale solutions or complex changes to underwriting policies, programs, products, systems, and processes in a highly regulated environment.
  • Evaluate and pilot new strategic and innovative business solutions to optimize and automate underwriting processes.
  • Independently configure, test, and implement systematic underwriting changes while adhering to rule documentation standards.
  • Independently leverage data-driven problem-solving technique, using data analysis tools, to manipulate and interpret business results.
  • Translate findings into insights, shaping into project or Initiative requests where warranted.
  • Ensure risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you’ll have:

  • Bachelor’s degree: OR 4 additional years (12 Total) of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 8 years of experience in Property & Casualty, Project Management, Process Engineering, Business Process or Risk Management, to include direct experience executing underwriting processes and/or defining underwriting procedures. Please explain your experience as it relates to these functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of relevant industry practices, insurance policy contracts, trends, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in leading efforts to interpret and apply P&C regulations to mitigate underwriting compliance risk.
  • Experience in making data driven decisions to create actionable recommendations for performance improvement. Please explain your experience as it relates to recommendations and performance improvement.
  • Experience in presenting analysis and findings to varying levels of management and key stakeholders to gather support for business initiatives and influence strategy.
  • Experience researching, developing, writing, and editing operational procedures and documents.
  • Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and/or Access.

What sets you apart:

  • Strong technical expertise with Auto and/or Homeowner’s Insurance, with a focus on Underwriting acceptability and premium accuracy programs.
  • Direct line of business process ownership experience to independently analyze business rules, identify opportunities, develop recommendations, and execute to implementation/validation.
  • Experience influencing third party vendors and managing associated budgets and forecasts.
  • Experience analyzing aerial imagery.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities concurrently and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communicator who is experienced in presenting analysis/findings in a manner that conveys understanding, influences various levels of management, garners support for recommendations, and drives business strategy.
  • Working knowledge of existing data analytics tools, as well as emerging technologies, for example, ARCGIS, ADS, SAS, or Tableau.
  • Working experience managing Catastrophe risk.
  • Working experience with fraud prevention and detection.

What we offer:

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location. The salary range for this position is: $104,660-$199,970.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
