Job description

This is responsible public contact, customer service and office support work requiring the skilled operation of a computer and various software and database programs in the City of St. Petersburg Police Department Records Division. Work involves the organized and proper collection, storage, cataloging, maintenance and dissemination of electronic records and evidence, including digital, audio and video; and retrieving, preparing and providing digital, audio and video records for public record requests, the State Attorney, court and legal proceedings, other law enforcement agencies and media requests. An employee in this class must acquire a thorough understanding of the City’s organization and functions across all departments, as well as the applicable policies, procedures and administrative practices. Work requires the ability to maintain a high level of security and confidentiality in the assigned work areas, and the exercise of patience, tact and judgment due to the high volume of interaction with internal and external customers in a fast-paced environment. Work hours may vary and may include nights, weekends and some holidays.


Salary:$21.75 - $33.08 Hourly

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Be able to obtain Florida Crime Information Center (FCIC) certification within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
  • Have considerable knowledge of common office practices and procedures, including the proficient operation of a computer.
  • Have considerable knowledge of English language and grammar.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be able to quickly learn the operation of specialized computer record keeping systems and applications.
  • Be able to competently prepare reports and perform varied clerical duties.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Possess considerable knowledge of FCIC, NCIC (National Crime Information Center) and other various local, county, state, and national law enforcement databases, and applications.
  • Have experience in a law enforcement or similar environment related to the dissemination of criminal case records within public records law, preferably including digital, audio and video records.
  • Have knowledge and experience with digital, audio, and video editing, copying, enhancing, and redacting techniques and the related computer programs.
  • Have some knowledge of the City’s organization and various functions across all departments.
  • Have some knowledge of applicable regulations and department policies pertaining to the release of public records and information in a law enforcement setting.
  • Have some experience handling payment transactions and keeping financial records.
  • Are highly proficient in the use of a keyboard to enter data and produce related documents, reports, and correspondence.
