Back to all Jobs Police Officer Closes On: February 16, 2024 Department: Police Job Status: Full-Time Rate of Pay: $19.45/hr - Position Type: Full Time Status: Until Filled Apply Now Job Summary *This position performs duties deemed to be "safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies* Starting base salary is approximately $44,000 with additional education incentive pay of $1,200 to $2,400 per year for college degree. CLEET-certified officer transfer of one year on the pay scale for every two years of prior service Health insurance is fully paid for employee, and 75% paid for eligible dependents. Performs police patrols, investigation, traffic regulation, and related law enforcement activities.

Minimum Education Requirements: Graduation from a high school or GED equivalent. Minimum of (30) thirty hours of college from an accredited college or university that is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Acceleration (CHEA) or the U.S. Department of Education (U.S.D.E.).

An equivalent combination of education and experience. Direct Supervisor: Police Sergeant Supervisory Responsibility: Generally, none. May supervise part-time, seasonal and community service workers, as assigned.

Primary Work Location: Police Station. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places and with explosives; and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee drives a motor vehicle to travel to other locations on a frequent basis. Employee may be exposed to Bloodborne Pathogens.

Hepatitis B Vaccination is available. Job Responsibilities Works on shifts performing security patrols, traffic control, investigation and first aid at accidents, detection, investigation, and arrest of persons involved in crimes or misconduct. Uses own judgement in deciding course of action; expected to handle difficult or emergency situations without assistance.

Maintains availability by radio or telephone for consultation on major emergencies. Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County, and City laws and ordinances. Patrols city streets, parks, commercial, and residential areas to preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies, and other law violations.

Responds to emergency radio calls and investigates accidents, robberies, civil disturbances, domestic disputes, fights, drunkenness, missing children, prowlers, abuse of drugs, etc. Takes appropriate law enforcement action. Interrogates suspects, witnesses, and vehicle drivers; preserves evidence; arrests violators; investigates and renders assistance at scene of vehicular accident; summons ambulance and other law enforcement vehicles; and takes measurements and draws diagrams of scene.

Issues citations for violations of law; arrests suspects; and transports prisoners. Conducts follow-up investigations of crimes committed; seeks out and questions victim, witnesses, and suspects; develops leads and tips; searches crime scene for clues and evidence; analyzes and evaluates evidence and arrests offenders; prepares cases for giving testimony and testifies in court proceedings. Prepares a variety of reports and records including officer's daily log, reports of investigations, field interrogations reports, alcohol and drug reports, vehicle impoundment forms, traffic reports, etc.

Undertakes community oriented policing work, and assists citizens with such matters as locked vehicles, stalled vehicles, crime prevention, traffic safety, etc. Coordinates activities with other officers of the City; exchanges information with other law enforcement agencies; and obtains advise from the City Prosecutor and Court Clerk regarding cases, policies, and procedures. Maintains contact with police supervisory personnel to coordinate investigation activities, provides mutual assistance during emergency situations, and provides general information about departmental activities.

Serves as a member of various employee committees as needed. Maintains departmental equipment, supplies, and facilities. Maintains contact with the general public, court officials, and other officials, in the performance of police operating activities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge - Some knowledge of modern law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment. Skills - Skill in operating the following: Police vehicle Two-way radio Radar unit Handgun and other weapons as required Baton Handcuffs Intoxilyzer Pager First aid equipment Flashlight Telephone Copy machine Fax machine Word processor Computer Abilities - Able to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules, and regulations Able to perform work requiring good physical condition Able to communicate effectively orally and in writing Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, peers, and supervisors Able to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and in making decisions Able to follow verbal and written instructions Able to learn the City's geography Must be capable of driving a motor vehicle to travel to other locations on a frequent basis. Qualifications Special Requirements Must be 21 to 45 years age at the time of employment.

Must have fingerprint clearance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation. Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid Oklahoma State Driver's License without record of suspension or revocation in any State. Must not have been convicted in state or federal court for any felony, crime of moral turpitude, or a crime of domestic violence.

Must be a United States citizen or resident alien status, as defined by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Must be able to speak, read and write the English language.

Must be of good moral character and temperate and possess industrious habits. Must with six (6) months or their commission or appointment as a Police Officer, must satisfactorily complete a minimum CLEET approved certification course and satisfactorily pass all written examinations required for certification. Must be able to meet State Police Pension requirements prior to date of hire.

Must have undergone psychological evaluation by the employing agency using a psychological instrument approved by CLEET. Must not have been involuntarily committed to an Oklahoma state mental institution. Must certify that he or she is physically able to fully participate in and complete all phases of the CLEET Basic Peace Officer Certification Academy as mandated in CLEET rules.

Meet standards for training and certification for Peace Officer per Title 70, Section 3311. Authority of Peace Officer while off-duty Off duty peace officers, with specific authority from the employing agency, may be permitted to carry off-duty weapons. Authority is found in Title 21, Section 1289.23, of the Oklahoma State Statutes.

If such authority is granted, it must meet the requirements of this section. Counties and municipalities may choose not to permit off-duty weapon status. Examination required for certification Every person who has not been certified as a police or peace officer shall hold such position on a temporary basis only, and shall, within (6) months from the dated of appointment or taking office, satisfactorily complete a CLEET approved certification course and satisfactorily pass all written examinations required for certification.

Training beyond certification Oklahoma peace officers are mandated to receive a minimum of 25 hours of continuing education annually; at least two hours of which must be a topic related to mental health issues. The employing agency may also mandate training requirements for their officers. Each officer mus meet minimum standards for firearms re-qualification annually.

Such re-qualification will be reported to the Council on a specific form designated by CLEET. Job Advertisement Additional education incentive pay of $1,200 to $2,400 per year for a college degree. Overtime and paid holidays.

Holiday pay comes in two bi-yearly lump sum checks. Twelve-hour work shifts as well as three to four days off per week. Take home car policy for those living within 20 miles of the incorporated city limits.

Health insurance is fully paid for employee, and 75% paid for eligible dependents. Step plan pay raises yearly. Lateral transfer for CLEET certified officers.
