Summary of Job
The Germantown Police Department has opened a hiring process for Lateral Transfers. Eligible candidates will have a minimum of two (2) years of experience as a sworn law enforcement officer. Starting wages will depend on a candidate's years of experience. Germantown Officers work a 4-2 rotation with 8.5-hour shifts. We are in the early stages of planning a new police facility with a potential start date of 2024. We are a rapidly growing department with 4 immediate vacancies. A public safety referendum is scheduled for April where we are requesting 4 additional officers. You will work with a team consisting of outstanding, dedicated individuals and also have access to an on site fitness room with ability to workout on duty (last half hour of an employees shift).
The Germantown police department is a growing department, which offers several rewarding specialty assignments including Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, Drug Recognition Expert, Peer Support Team, and Drone Operator.
The Germantown Police Department is committed to offering both specialized training and frequent in-house training. We have several officers cross certified as instructors in DAAT, EVOC and Firearms, with some trainers holding other certifications as well. All officers are scheduled to participate in training to allow them to perform the Pursuit Intervention Technique (P.I.T.), within the next month. We are exploring options to have advanced training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, available to officers.
We have 8 officers assigned to the Washington County SWAT Team. Those officers train twice per month in firearms and tactical exercises.
We have a Detective Bureau with 3 Detectives including the Detective Sergeant. We have a Crime Prevention Officer that assists as an Investigator, and we have an Investigator assigned to the Washington County Metro Drug Unit.
We have two K9 Units, with one assigned to second shift and one assigned to third shift. We have School Resource Officers in both the Middle School and High School.
We are transitioning to a command staff that will include a Chief, Captain, Lieutenants (3), and six Sergeants with two per shift.

This will be an accelerated hiring process. Candidates will be invited to an interview to include the Police and Fire Commission and members of the Command Staff. A background investigation will be conducted followed by a medical exam, to include drug screening, and a psychological examination. Uniforms are provided.

Long Term/Short Term Disability Insurance
The Village of Germantown offers a Short Term Disability plan through ETF to any regular employee that works at least 24 hours per week. The premium is paid 100% by ETF and the plan pays a monthly benefit of 75% of monthly base salary after the employee has been off work for 30 days.
