Plumbing Foreman
Reports to: CHC Job Superintendent or CHC Project Manager
1. Summary of Duties
A Plumber/Pipe Fitter Mechanic reports to the applicable CHC Job Superintendent or, in the absence of a superintendent, directly to the CHC Project Manager. Supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in the fabricating, assembling, installing, and maintaining piping, fixtures, and equipment for distribution of supply water (both potable and process), gas, steam, and other fluids as well as waste disposal systems for commercial and industrial applications.
Daily job stress will run from minimal to extreme, based on such factors as the weather, site considerations, time constraints, job, and customer needs. An average workday will be moderately stressful.
Representative duties include:
- Assign workers to specific duties.
- Inspect work in progress and completed work to insure conformance to specifications.
- Supervise and coordinate activities of assigned craft workers.
- Interpret specifications, blueprints, and job orders as needed for area of supervision.
- Enforce company policies to workers and enforce safety regulations.
- Establish and adjust work sequences to meet construction schedule, using knowledge of capacities of equipment and assigned personnel.
- May study schedules and estimate worker-hour requirements for completion of job.
- Analyze and resolve work problems.
- Maintain employee field records and evaluate work performance of assigned personnel.
- May make time estimates for contracts.
- Perform routine installation activities without direct oversight or on-site assistance.
- Assist in training of new CHC Mechanical employees on installation related subjects.
- Conduct non-installation work in support of the Fabrication Shop and Service Departments, as assigned.
- Perform related duties as directed by the applicable CHC Job Superintendent or CHC Project Manager.
- Conform to all applicable CHC Policies and Procedures.
2. Job Qualifications
Able to:
- Work within industry standards of accuracy.
- Possess a mechanical aptitude.
- Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
- Visualize objects in three-dimensions from plans and drawings.
- Physically, workers must be able to:
- Perform all duties noted above under the conditions, circumstances, and extreme weather conditions indicative to job site location.
- Work easily and skillfully with hands.
- Possess good vision (either naturally or with correction).
- Lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 60 pounds frequently.
- Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds.
- Stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
· Must not be afraid of heights (acrophobia).
· High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) and graduate of a post-secondary program of instruction of two or more years in duration or completion of apprenticeship program or similar training program and appropriate work experience required.
· Have four or more years of successful and full-time installation experience in craft.
· Have good oral and reading skills, including the ability to read and apply the project plans and specifications, and the manufacturers’ installation instructions and clearly communicate with customers, suppliers, other CHC Mechanical employees and other trades.
· Demonstrate an interest and initiative in maintaining his/her trade skills through a combination of self-study, company training, manufacturers’ workshops, and other professional development activities.
· May require a current Tennessee operator’s license and the ability to operate all types of vehicles in the corporate fleet within 30 days of initial employment. If applicable, incumbent must be insurable by CHC Mechanical’s current insurance carrier.
· Have the ability to direct, organize and supervise work efficiently given time pressures, non-standard schedule, extreme weather conditions indicative to job site location, varying customer needs and demands, and backlog constraints. Have the ability to accurately evaluate and document the skills and abilities of assigned personnel.
