Job description

Job Responsibilities


  • Develops plumbing maintenance and repair program throughout the facility.
  • Performs maintenance on all sewers, water distribution systems, building storm drains and other systems related to plumbing or pipe fitting.
  •  Supervises and installs plumbing and related systems in construction/renovation projects within the facility.
  •  Establishes on-call procedures to respond to emergency plumbing maintenance and repair calls and ensures the work is promptly and properly performed.
  • Supervises the operation and maintenance of plumbing facilities sewage disposal equipment to ensure compliance with standards prescribed by the SCDHEC.
  • Determines requirements for plumbing supplies and equipment and prepares justification for and requisitions all supplies.
  •  Remains abreast of new plumbing techniques, procedures and equipment in functional area and recommends the procurement of and assists in supervising the installation of new plumbing and sewage disposal equipment.   
  • Orients new employees and administers training.  

Must successfully complete two (2) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State Minimum Requirements:

A high school diploma and experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air, water, gas or waste disposal systems. Relevant experience may be substituted for the required diploma on a year-for-year basis. 


SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalence as approved by the Division of State Human Resources). 

  • A High School diploma
  • Five (5) years of experience in the field of plumbing.
