PLC Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer on a contract basis through Valspec to join our team and work with our client, a leading biotechnology company located in the Southern California area. As an Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for providing expertise in Rockwell SCADA/PLC series projects, specifically focusing on lead design/engineering and commissioning activities. The assignment will last for approximately 12 months and is an onsite work arrangement with remote options for local candidates. A resource local to Southern CA, is preferred for job walks and site commissioning activities.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and engineering of Rockwell SCADA/PLC series projects, ensuring they meet the required specifications and standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, develop project plans, and define project scope for automation projects.
- Develop and implement automation strategies, including hardware and software design, programming, testing, and commissioning.
- Perform system integration and troubleshooting of automation systems, including PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA systems.
- Conduct job walks and site commissioning activities at the facility in SoCal, as required.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders, including training on automation systems and troubleshooting.
- Generate and maintain project documentation, including design specifications, test protocols, commissioning plans, and standard operating procedures.
Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working as an Automation Engineer, specializing in Rockwell SCADA/PLC series projects.
- Strong expertise in lead design and engineering of automation systems, including hardware and software components.
- Proven experience in commissioning and troubleshooting of Rockwell SCADA/PLC series projects.
- Proficiency in Rockwell software tools, such as RSLogix, FactoryTalk View, and FactoryTalk SE.
- Familiarity with industry standards and protocols, including OPC, Ethernet/IP, and Modbus.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of regulatory and safety requirements in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry is a plus.
- Ability to visit on-site at the facility in SoCal, for job walks and site commissioning activities.
Pay Range: $85 - $100 / hour pay range is an estimate of pay for project-based employment. We recognize that talent is key to our success as a company, and aim for the most competitive compensation to ensure we are able to attract the best candidates. The quoted pay range represents our best estimate of what our ideal candidate is likely to expect, based on experience, industry knowledge, location, technical and interpersonal skills. Range varies based on knowledge and experience.
