Job Description:
MIG Services Inc. is looking for a Plating Engineer with a requirement of being a problem-solver who can work effectively, efficiently, and independently in a deadline-driven, dynamic environment that requires interfacing with various personnel and ensuring project execution with their support and engagement. The Plating Engineer will have to be able to identify, scope, and successfully resolve problems with minimal direction.

Job Function:
Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, the Plating Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of plating processes. This role will also work closely with project engineers, quality engineers, and the coating/heat treating manager during development of new products and processes.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all plating processes; from RFQ through bid support, tooling and equipment development and procurement, project management through qualification, and oversight of production processes and support
- Develop or assist in the development of new processes. Provide technical expertise and counsel to management
- Assist in the Design and acquisition of fixtures and anodes for plating processes
- Ensure customer specifications are incorporated into testing schedule and requirements
- Verify and analyze plating quality
- Investigate, report and resolve process and test failures
- Discusses process and material problems and discrepancies with engineering, manufacturing and management staff
- Works with suppliers to obtain specifications on new equipment, materials, and/or products as need to fulfill customer requirements
- Create, implement, and support an equipment preventative maintenance plan, inventory of consumable parts, equipment calibration records, and interface with operation scheduling to perform maintenance and repair
- Support plating technicians by training, problem solving, staffing needs, etc.
- Build schedule for plating rooms based off of time in solution and customer orders to meet demands
- Write, review, update and implement health and safety programs, procedures, reports and training as required by company policy and all Federal, State, and Local regulatory agencies. Guidance/assistance will be provided by corporate EH&S Manager.
- Support internal and external audit efforts when required including Customer, Nadcap and ISO
- Perform miscellaneous duties and projects as assigned and required
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, or similar related field and at least 3+ years’ experience in electrolytic plating
- Ability to demonstrate a balanced and in-depth understanding of both the process physics and chemistry required to achieve a highly stable and predictive process.
- Demonstrated experience setting up and sustaining electrochemistry equipment, processes, and various metrology methods associated with the control and monitor of such processes
- Knowledge of metallurgical and elemental analysis
- Strong self-starter – creative, willing, and persistent to find a way to execute goals
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Sound analytical and problem solving skills
- Strong ability to set priorities, solves problems, and be resourceful when under pressure
- Excellent planning, organizing, time and work management
- Must be able to travel as required
Preferable Experience
- 3+ years’ Platinum Plating experience of gas turbine engine components
- Lean Manufacturing, value stream mapping, or similar process analysis and improvement experience. Green Belt in Six Sigma or similar training
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend at the waist and knees, squat, use hands, reach with hands, and arms, and communicate. Work in office environment and use of computer (typical 2-button scroll mouse and keyboard – 50% of the work day). The employee must frequently lift/or move up to 40 pounds, occasionally 50 pounds without assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment may be loud.
