We're seeking a skilled Kubernetes Platform Engineer to join our dynamic team and help us enhance our customer’s Kubernetes platform capabilities.
We are looking for exceptional engineers to deliver expertise and solutions on the Platform One Big Bang product team. Platform One is a customer focused U.S. Air Force platform providing DevSecOps services to the Department of Defense. As a Kubernetes Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our Kubernetes platform, ensuring its reliability, scalability, and security. You will improve and maintain a consumable platform of open-source cloud native applications and tooling for mission software teams. All candidates must be eligible to obtain a Secret clearance to be eligible for hire, and US Citizenship is required due to federal contracting requirements. This is a fully remote role with flexibility for optional quarterly travel to San Antonio or Colorado Springs for in person collaboration with the product team.

Key Responsibilities:
- Design, deploy, and manage Kubernetes clusters and associated infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, and scalability.
- Develop and implement automation tools and frameworks to streamline deployment and operational tasks.
- Collaborate with development teams to architect and support CI/CD pipelines and workflows for containerized applications.
- Ensure the security of the Kubernetes clusters through regular audits, implementing security best practices, and working with security teams to address vulnerabilities.
- Implement solutions to challenging Kubernetes use cases such as edge deployments with intermittent connectivity.
- Participate in capacity planning and perform performance tuning to ensure efficient resource utilization.
- Keep abreast of new technologies and Kubernetes features, evaluating and recommending tools and processes for continuous improvement of the platform.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and processes for internal use and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications:
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and Docker, including the deployment, management, and scaling of containerized applications.
- In-depth understanding of Kubernetes architecture and components, including but not limited to pods, services, deployments, replica sets, and namespaces.
- Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
- Strong background in Linux/Unix administration, including shell scripting and system troubleshooting.
- Experience with cloud platforms: Proficiency using at least one of the following cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for deploying and managing applications.
- Solid understanding of networking, storage, and security principles as they relate to Kubernetes.
- Understanding of security practices and tools relevant to Kubernetes (e.g., network policies, security contexts, RBAC, secret management).
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI) and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and alerting tools in a Kubernetes context (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience with operating Kubernetes clusters in multi-tenant environments.
- Production experience operating Kubernetes clusters and associated tooling.
