Montana Specialty Mills is a joint venture between Columbia Grain International, a leading worldwide grain and pulse supplier based in Portland, Oregon, and Evans Grain based in Burley, Idaho.
We have over 20 years of oilseed processing experience and have established a reputation for product quality and excellent service with both customers and growers.
Our new, state-of-the-art crush plant and refinery represents a firm investment in Montana agriculture. Located along the Missouri River in Great Falls, this facility is focused on processing specialty oilseeds. Our Great Falls plant has the capability to load product into railcars, bulk trucks, totes and drums. This facility is designed to process identity-preserved crops, and we offer a wide variety of products and toll processing services.
Position Description
The Plant Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations at the plant. This position will oversee production, maintenance and quality assurance functions. The Plant Manager will work with the other members of the team to work toward operational goals while maintaining quality and efficiencies.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage all mill processes and maintain operations at or above normal capacity by delegating proper tasks to Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors as necessary.
- Maintain adequate staff and hire for open positions.
- Work with Operations Manager and Shift Supervisors to address quality discrepancies that could affect customers' needs.
- Maintain a good food safety culture in the workplace.
- Keep track of inventory and maintain adequate supply of product and supplies to keep production on schedule.
- Keep up to date with all SQF documents and checklists to ensure facility will pass audits.
- Line up inbound/outbound freight
- Receive orders from customers and input into inventory management system.
- Work with Operations Manager to schedule production to ensure timely shipments to customers.
- Other duties assigned.
Skills, Knowledge, Education and Experience
- Without a technical degree or professional certification: 7 years of production/processing experience in an industrial setting or in a machine shop
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures and machinery, basic math skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Knowledge of manufacturing regulatory and safety requirements (e.g., OSHA).
- Proficiency with spreadsheet and word processing software (e.g., Excel and Word).
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Good work ethic (team environment, both safe and quality), efficient and willingness to perform all required work with good attendance.
- General knowledge of Process Safety Management.
Physical Requirements necessary to perform this job
- Must be able to move freely throughout the operations plant to include walking on elevated platforms, standing, sitting, climbing, stooping, kneeling and crawling
- Ability to regularly lift and move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and move up to 100 lbs.
- Exposure to extreme climate temperatures, humidity and noise
- Must be able to work in high places and confined spaces (height up to 100 feet).
- Occasionally required to taste and smell
- Required to wear protective equipment to include hard hat, safety glasses, protective footwear, gloves, coveralls, and other PPE as required.
