Job Summary:
Perform the pesticide program area's most complex pesticide report review and enforcement and serve as a recognized resource for Western Michigan to multiple Field supervisors, program, and inspection staff, and partners. This position provides for consistency and uniformity in the pesticide program by ensuring inspections, investigations, and any resulting enforcement actions, are consistent and aligned with established policies and procedures. Under direction of the unit manager, this position reviews complex inspection and investigation reports, identifies violations, prepares cases for unit manager review, and issues enforcement actions according to established policy. Work closely with the Unit Manager and Field Supervisors to ensure consistent enforcement and compliance assurance including, identifying and developing statewide training opportunities, auditing inspection and investigation processes, develop and recommend appropriate enforcement response, and draft enforcement documents. In addition, this position will develop compliance assistance materials for regulated stakeholders and engage with regulated stakeholders to ensure a full understanding of pesticide laws and regulations.

This position is required to follow established standard operating procedures and meet quality, quantity, and timeliness standards for assigned work.
This position serves as a recognized resource serving the West side of Michigan, including portions of the Upper Peninsula for the Pesticide Enforcement Unit

Education

Possession of a bachelor's degree in agronomy, animal science, animal nutrition, biology, botany, chemistry, crop science, entomology, environmental science, forestry, horticulture, plant pathology, plant physiology, soil science, or a related field.


Experience

Three years of professional experience in enforcing and/or complying with the laws and regulations pertaining to pesticide use, insects, pests, and plant diseases in agricultural commodities and horticultural stock equivalent to a Plant Industry Field Scientist, including one year equivalent to a Plant Industry Field Scientist P11.
