Job Summary
The Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage is looking for their next Community Engagement Director s. Thesepositions will support the Council for Minnesotans of African Heritage in providing advice and informing the Governor's Office, Minnesota State Legislature, and other government agencies on matters important to the Minnesota African Heritage community through its legislative and policy work. These positions will also assist to maintain and strengthen relationships between CMAH and the Governor's Office, Minnesota State Legislature, other government offices and the African heritage community. Primary duties for these positions includecommunity outreach, Community Engagement, communications, and supportingthe Council's work related to legislation and public policy, data analysis, research, and reporting.

This vacancy will be used to hire up to 2 positions.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of experience working with the African heritage Minnesotan community and/or government, public relations, or another related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with website design tools, such as Word Press or similar software as well as various forms of social media.
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, experience working with diverse groups with the African heritage community.
  • Event planning experience

A Bachelor's degree in business, public administration, african american studies, political science, or a related field may substitute forone year of experience. An Associate's degree may substitute for six months of experience.
Minimum qualifications to be assessed at the interview:
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, creative thinking and tactful problem solving.
  • Understanding and familiarity with issues of importance to the African heritage community of Minnesota.
  • Ability to multi-task and possess strong organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to build and sustain mutually beneficial relationships built on trust
  • Strong public speaking skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrate knowledge in wide-range of various social issues, including but not limited to education, immigration, health, human rights, employment, housing, economics, child welfare etc.
  • Experience in community outreach, including work with families, campaigns, grassroots organizing, community development, youth programs, arts and culture, social services or similar field
  • Knowledge and experience in data analysis and research methods.
  • Knowledge and experience of the Minnesota legislative and policy making process.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility in navigating various topic areas.
  • Proficiency in management and administration of social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter etc.
  • Ability to effectively design, develop and manage policy projects.
