SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Team Lead the Pipefitter/Welder Mechanic performs work in the Maintenance department. This is a Journeyman Level position with field and shop experience as a Pipefitter/Welder in Process Machinery Equipment. Required to operate various weld shop equipment and have strong welding/pipefitting background.
Desired competencies include: proven applicable trade skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail. Ideal candidate must be able to establish priorities under tight deadlines and have a proven track record as a motivated, self-starter who can work on multiple projects and priorities within a fast-paced environment. Incumbent is expected to have sound knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs. Prior relevant experience as a Pipefitter/Welder in the petroleum, manufacturing industries are preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. MIG/TIG/SMAW Welding.
  2. Oxy-Acetylene Cutting, Grinding, Pipefitting, Layout and Fabrication.
  3. Trainees are responsible for performance of work within reasonable time limits and in accordance with established procedures, regulations, safe practices, and all applicable codes.
  4. Works in petroleum plant and shop environments.
  5. Learns troubleshooting, preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance activities.
  6. Learns to disassembles, fabricates, assembles and installs equipment as required.
  7. Learns to safely and effectively utilize hand, power and precision tools. Makes necessary craft computations and uses a computer.
  8. Ability to read mechanical, isometric drawings and blueprints.
  9. Must be able to take initiative and work independently. Has ability to plan and organize own work.
  10. Ability to display a comprehensive understanding of company and departmental policies and procedures.
  11. Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions.
  12. Build positive working relationships with co-workers, both internally and externally to Island Energy Services.

OTHER DUTIES:
  1. Proactively updates and maintains operating standards, emergency procedures and any other documents as needed.
  2. Teamwork - Works effectively with coworkers and others by sharing ideas in a constructive, positive manner; listening to and objectively considering ideas and suggestions from others; keeping commitments; keeping others informed of work progress and issues; addressing problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical solutions; and respecting the diversity of the IES workforce in actions, words, and deeds.

  4. Travel and work on outer islands as required.
  5. Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
  1. Minimum of 5 years relevant Pipefitter or Welder experience
  2. Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Must be able to read, write and speak English proficiently.

Desirable Skills
  1. MIG, TIG and SMAW pipe certified for carbon steel and stainless steel
  2. Journeyman Pipefitting
  3. Layout and fabrication
  4. Basic rigging and crane signaling

Other Requirements
  1. Pass background check including periodic job-related physical abilities testing as required.
  2. This is a safety sensitive position and random drug testing is required.
  3. Willingness to commit to The Island Way (IES core values of): Kīnā'ole, Aloha, Lōkahi and Ho'ohana.
  4. Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC) within sixty days of hire.
  5. Valid driver's license with clean abstract to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  6. Must be able to work overtime, some shift work, nights, weekends, holidays.
  7. Willing to work at least 12 consecutive hours as required.
  8. Willing to be on call and meet call-out standards to respond to site responsibilities and emergencies.
  9. This position requires driving on a routine basis.
  10. Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including: full body coveralls, protective footwear, hard hats, hearing protection, eye protection, etc.
  11. Able to work while wearing a full face respirator or Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA).
  12. Willingness to devote the time as needed to meet packet and task deadlines.
  13. Willingness to maintain or increase skills.

PAY AND BENEFITS:
Island Energy Services offers a competitive salary that commensurate with qualifications and experience. This is a negotiated union position, and the starting hourly pay rate is $42.21/hour. The position will start at the Mechanic Trainee 2 (MT2) level and progress through on the job training to the position of Mechanic A level.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employment is contingent upon successfully passing an employee reference check, drug test, criminal background check and a five-year motor vehicle history check. This position may also be required to perform a practical skills based assessment. This is a non-exempt position under FLSA regulations.
