Job description

Pipefitter Class A
A pipefitter is a tradesperson who installs, repairs, and maintains pipe systems of various shapes, sizes, and pressures. They work with pipes that contain and transport substances for hydraulic systems and industrial pipe infrastructure. They may also build pipe systems for heating, hot water, cooling, and steam generation. They read design specifications and ensure proper placement, alignment, and operation of the pipes according to blueprints and instructions.
Responsibilities:

  • Understand requirements, read and interpret blueprints, ISO's field installations, material takeoffs, and field drawings.
  • Construction and installation of screw pipe, socket weld pipe, stainless tubing, carbon steel weld pipe, and stainless steel weld pipe
  • Fabricate all pipe using miters.
  • Pipes and tubes should be beveled before welding.
  • Plan for the insertion of pipes
  • Install pipes of various diameters in pipe racks.
  • Put in pipe hangers, supports, and valves.
  • Must be competent to install underground pipes of various sizes
  • Installation of steam and heat tracing is required.
  • Must be able to properly bolt up flanges for pipes and valves of different diameters.
  • Assist other artisans as necessary.
Physical
  • It is necessary to be able to push/pull, lift, or carry up to 100 lbs., however this is not a need all the time.
  • Subject to repetitive use of hands/arms, and legs
  • To securely accomplish work, one must be able to communicate (hear, understand, and speak).
  • Ability to undertake sedentary to heavy labor will be required.
  • May use various forms of hand and power tools, including electric, gas, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Climb and keep your equilibrium when using ladders, scaffolds, steps, and steel or wood frames.
  • Requiring regular use of hands to grip, lift, handle, transport, or feel items.
  • Long-term bending, twisting, crawling, kneeling, reaching aloft, crouching, pushing, or lifting may be necessary for the position.
  • Must be able to navigate rough terrain, mud, loose rock, soft, loose sand, etc.
  • It could be necessary to work in small places.
  • May experience unfavorable weather (heat, cold, rain, etc.).
