Position Summary:
The Pipe Fitter maintains, assembles and installs pipe systems. This position maintains the equipment to support the manufacturing plant’s processing routes including wastewater, steam, water and bulk ingredients. The Pipe Fitter performs general welding within the manufacturing plant.
Position Responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Replace and repair a variety of existing pipes (including sanitary), plumbing and pumps to include welding, pipefitting, soldering, cutting, bending, threading and brazing
- Operate valves to verify repairs
- Move or relocate equipment for repairs
- Install, maintain, modify and repair all mechanical pipe installations using PVC and stainless-steel pipe and tubing
- Assemble and install new equipment which may include welding, sanitary welding, pipefitting, soldering, drilling/mounting holes, installing ceiling hangers, etc.
- Inspect worksite to identify obstructions ensuring no structural weakness or interference with other systems
- Maintain cleanliness of workspace
- Rebuild various valve types, i.e., Pneumatic actuator and sanitary
- Read drawings, blueprints and interpret various specifications
- Manage all aspects of piping systems and pipe installations
- Use sanitary MIG and TIG welding techniques to repair and/or update existing processing systems
- Adhere to all Good Manufacturing Practices, including sanitary requirements, safety, Food Safety, and standardized work procedures
- Other projects or duties as assigned
Required Skills and Experience:
- HS Diploma/GED with 0-1 plus years of experience in pipe fitting, sanitary process piping, and MIG and TIG welding or other related experience
- Strong mechanical skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Experience reading and interpreting blueprints/schematics
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to repetitively lift up to 50 lbs.
- This position must pass a post-offer background and drug test
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- Electrical Certification or Vocational Certification
- SAP experience
- Machining experience
- Experience rebuilding pumps
- General knowledge of OSHA Codes, GMP's and sanitary design
- Basic knowledge of environmental regulations
