Job Title:Pilot Program Engineer

Supervisor: Director of Engineering

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Engineering

Summary

This position is responsible for designing solutions for challenging water treatment applications and acting as a consultant to internal and external stakeholders prior to project award.

Additionally, this position manages the Pilot Program to assist in supporting the growth of sales with respect to pilot contracts and the resulting full-scale opportunity linked to the pilot. This includes but is not limited to: sales support for bidding and winning pilot contracts, management of customer projects, coordinating the development of testing protocols, customer service for pilot projects, field support of pilot equipment, data analysis, system optimization, technical report writing, as well as fulfilling R&D needs of the company as they arise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists in evaluating customer specifications to designate the proper treatment solution and produces accurate BOM’s and capital/operating cost estimates.
  • Completes bids and proposals by required due date.
  • Confirms product performance by designing and conducting operational tests or research.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports.
  • Creates preliminary PFD, P&ID, and layout drawings.
  • Provides engineering support by answering questions and requests from inside or outside the organization.
  • Seeks outside resources to assist with implementing operating procedures, resolve system malfunction and to seek technical support/information.
  • Works closely with the sales and engineering teams to support sales, grow commercial Pilot Program and maximize utilization of all pilot assets and accessories.
  • Develops the technical depth in Wigen products and application knowledge either personally or through company resources.
  • Develops and maintains Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting documentation for pilot projects/equipment, including accessible and organized bank of pilot history/data.
  • Develops streamlined processes to collect necessary information from customer or internal resources for pilot test protocols that best meet the overall treatment objectives while providing the data needed to develop an optimized full-scale solution.
  • Develops and implements program metrics to measure pilot asset utilization, rental revenue (pilot assets and accessories), probability and quality of full-scale opportunity creation, efficiency/hours per project, on-time/under budget and customer satisfaction.
  • Drives a highly responsive culture to both internal and external customers to provide timely and accurate information and maximizes pilot system up-time and performance.
  • Works with Sales and Marketing to influence marketplace through whitepapers, presentations and case stories at regional/national trade shows and industry conferences.
  • Provides hands-on and remote field support to troubleshoot, maintain and optimize pilot equipment including: instrumentation, pumps, valves, controls and other typical water treatment components.
  • Assists in the Field Service group when necessary.
  • Develops and updates the project schedules and clearly communicates specific task expectations to team members and stakeholders.
  • Effectively manages pilot projects by ensuring customer agreements, change orders, invoices and payments are created, reviewed, approved, and received.
  • Responsible for writing pilot reports that summarize the pilot data and provide pilot study conclusions and recommendations.

Miscellaneous Duties and Responsibilities

  • Other tasks, duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ability to travel up to 30% for customer needs and sometimes on short notice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college in Environmental, Chemical, Mechanical, or similar discipline; two years of related experience preferred.
  • An understanding of water chemistry and sampling/analytical methods and/or process knowledge of water/wastewater treatment (biological treatment, membranes and filtration, adsorption, reverse osmosis, oxidation and disinfection) is a plus.
  • Must reside within a 25-mile radius of our Chaska location.
  • Experience with AutoCAD preferred.
  • Experience designing piping systems preferred.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, customers, contractors or vendors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Knowledge of inventory software preferred; Internet software; Spreadsheet software (Excel) and Processing software (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat) required.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to walk; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions; moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
