Overview
The incumbent in this position is responsible for overseeing all airplane operations conducted by the Aviation Department. Supervises, coordinates and schedules the work of the Airplane Pilots and is responsible for performing other administrative duties. The individual operates all airplanes in order to transport passengers to destinations within the United States (domestic) and international locations. The individual performs maintenance testing as well as other missions assigned to the Aviation Department. This position reports to the Chief Airplane Pilot or designee and is an exempt position.
Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions:
  • Performs all airplane operations conducted by the Aviation Department and is responsible for performing other administrative duties.
  • Operates all airplanes in order to transport passengers to destinations within the United States (domestic) and international locations.
  • Performs preflight routine checks, including consulting with weather forecasts, Notices to Airmen and dispatchers, which provides the information necessary to create a flight plan.
  • Plans flight, following governmental regulations.
  • Performs all preflight activities in compliance with Federal Aviation regulations.
  • Documents specified information in flight record, such as time in flight, destination, maintenance discrepancies etc.
  • Notifies Maintenance staff on a timely manner of any discrepancies; works directly with the Chief Pilot and Maintenance Mechanic to identify and rectify these discrepancies.
  • Ensures maintenance and cleanliness of aircraft.
  • Must adhere to all Support Services policies and procedures.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
FAA Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL) is required. Second Class Medical Certificate is required. Airplane Captain must have completed 3,000 hours Total flight time; 2,000 hours Pilot in Command in airplanes; 1,500 hours in Multi Engine Jet and 500 hours in turbine planes. Ability to operate airplanes in adverse conditions, day or night, on or off airport is required. International operating experience is preferred. Ability to work a flexible schedule included evenings, weekends and holidays.
Additional Requirements:
  • Knowledge of all applicable Federal Aviation Association Regulations.
  • Knowledge all applicable International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regulations.
  • Knowledge of aircraft operations and related subjects including; navigation, weather, communications, and instrumentation
  • Knowledge of flight theory and flight planning.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Ability to operate airplanes in adverse weather conditions, day or night, to domestic or international destinations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with various departments within the Tribe.
  • Demonstrated customer services skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret and apply complex regulations or procedures.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
  • Ability to plan, organize and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to cope with the psychological and physiological pressures of global flight operations.
  • Ability to serve the Tribal community, the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with guests, general public, co-workers, elected and appointed officials.

Physical Demands:
Although flying does not involve much physical effort, the mental stress of being responsible for the safety of passengers can be fatiguing. Pilots must be alert and quick to react if something goes wrong, particularly during takeoff and landing.
Working Conditions:
The work is primarily performed in an airplane cockpit. Must be able to tolerate fluctuations in temperature while performing essential functions of the job. The individual may be exposed to inclement weather conditions such as heat, dust, rain, mud and noise. Pilots face some types of job hazards. All pilots face the risk of hearing loss due to prolonged exposure to engine noise.
