Under the direction of the Area Coordinator of Science and Engineering, the primary purpose of the Engineering and Physics Laboratory Assistant is to apply technical knowledge and laboratory experience in Engineering and Physics, in order to carry out plans developed by the Area Coordinator. The Lab Assistant will also coordinate and implement the set-up of all student laboratory exercises, in support of all courses within the Engineering and Physics Area of the STEM Department, maintain inventory, order supplies, and maintain all equipment. This includes equipment repair or contacting service when necessary.
Position is 25 hours per week and eligible for pro-rated benefits
Major Job Duties:
- Apply technical knowledge and experience to support the day to day operations of the Engineering and Physics Lab Laboratories and accompanying labs, under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.
- Maintain all laboratory and manufacturing equipment, and order parts and laboratory supplies when needed.
- Assist with coordinating and implementing the set-up and breakdown of laboratory experiments.
- Assist with training student workers.
- Supervise and guide student workers .
- Apply technical knowledge, experience and safety training to make responsible decisions in the laboratory.
- Assist with processing laboratory and 3D printing requests and planning student workload to fulfill requests.
- Assist with maintaining inventories of all laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Safely handle hazardous materials and follow protocols for safe disposal.
Hourly Range: $21.7177 - $23.2379 (commensurate with experience)
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma with some college course work.
- 1 to 3 years of experience working in an Engineering or Physics laboratory preferred; alternatively, hands-on laboratory experience in the classroom may be considered.
- Experience with operating and maintaining 3D printing and laser cutting equipment, and experience with operating a lathe and milling machine is preferred.
- Familiarity with Bucks Engineering and Physics courses a plus.
- Ability to communicate in written and oral form, and work well with others in a team environment. Highly organized and able to keep up with a high demand.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Preferred Qualification:
- Associate's in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or related field preferred.
