Acuity is currently seeking Physician- General Surgeon to support our Global Health Services Business Unit. General Surgeon will be assigned to treat patients in one of three settings: (1) Field Health Unit, (2) Small medical/trauma hospitals, (3) Large medical/trauma hospital.
Location: Deploying to Haiti
Duties:
The primary responsibilities of the Position include the following:
•Provides medical services at the scope and level of a General Surgeon to preserve the health of employees and client personnel.
•Coordinate with local hospitals to determine local capabilities, coordinate admission, monitor and arrange final disposition. In addition, this setting may require stabilization of patient and coordination of evacuation of patient to medevac center or CONUS.
•Provide preoperative, operative, and post-operative management of patient care.
•Attends and participates in a variety of meetings and task force groups to improve quality and outcomes, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specific level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, new task efforts, and new policy requirements.
•Collaborates with the healthcare team to provide patients with critical medical care services within the standard of care for critical care patients.
•Records and maintains patient information in accordance with standard protocols, and the Privacy Act.
•Thoroughly exercises skill in initiative, judgment, problem-solving and decision-making daily.
•Makes independent judgments and prioritizes workload.
•Protects patients' privacy through confidentiality, infection control procedures, assuring consistent medication administration, and assuring proper storage and maintenance procedures for all equipment and supplies.
•Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
•Completion of a General Surgery Residency within the United State or Western country equivalent.
•Have three years' experience.
•U.S. or Canadian board certified or recently ABS qualified General Surgeon with interest, training and experience managing the full range of emergency surgical cases including soft-tissue, as well as the full-range of general surgical cases including abdominal.
•Recent completion of Tactical Combat Casualty Care or comparable advanced trauma course featuring "live tissue" or exceptional simulation training is desirable. Completion of a trauma fellowship will merit consideration.
•U.S. board certified or recently American Board of Surgery (ABS) qualified General Surgeon.
•Hold and maintain a current unrestricted U.S. (State) license.
•Have and maintain current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS), and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
•Participate in training, (including HIPAA training).
•Recent completion of Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) or comparable advanced trauma course featuring "live tissue" or exceptional simulation training is desirable. Completion of a trauma fellowship will merit consideration.
•All health care providers and medical support staff must have recent clinical experience in patient care for at least 6 months out of the past year.
•Proficiency with computer and common office equipment, as well as with MS Office products required.
•Ability to adapt to sudden changes and flexibility in work requirements to include potential shift changes based on operational needs and/or command priorities.
Requirements:
•Must have a current U.S. passport.
•Sign a Foreign Service Agreement (FSA) before deployment.
•Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Clearance.
Physical Requirements:
•Must meet pre-deployment physical requirements.
•No conditions that would prevent the wear of personal protective equipment; including protective mask, ballistic helmet, body armor and chemical/biological protective garments or conditions that would prevent the capability of donning, lifting or carrying of up to 70 lbs. of referenced gear while running to a bunker or protected area in the face of perceived or imminent danger.
•Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
•Location of services may at times be in remote, austere or challenging environments.
•May require bending, stooping and lifting as required for patient care and transport.
