Job Summary:
APN: Practicing professional nursing by performing independent nursing and delegated medical functions following accepted practice standards. Utilizing specialized knowledge, judgment, and skills involving the application of biological, physical, social, and behavioral science principles. Functions include patient advocacy, nursing care, and advanced clinical skills to evaluate, diagnose, and treat human disease, injury, and various health conditions. PA: Practicing medicine under a physician's supervision in accordance with accepted standards. Utilizing specialized knowledge and skills in biological, physical, social, and behavioral sciences. Functions include patient advocacy, medical care, and health maintenance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- DATA COLLECTION
- Obtaining medical history, performing physical examinations, and reviewing relevant studies
- Accessing patient records and relevant information
- ASSESSMENT
- Formulating accurate diagnoses based on data collected
- Developing treatment plans aligned with physician preferences
- TREATMENT PLANNING
- Implementing treatment plans, ordering medication, and additional tests
- Providing care with attention to safety, efficiency, and cost
- PROCEDURAL CONSIDERATIONS
- Performing procedures within expertise limits and regulations
- PATIENT EDUCATION AND COUNSELING
- Educating patients on treatment plans and health promotion
- Providing culturally-sensitive health information
- DOCUMENTATION
- Recording examination data and diagnostic impressions
- Documenting patient care activities in medical records
- OTHER TASKS
- Observing Universal Precautions
- Conducting telephonic and virtual encounters
- Managing in-basket tasks and performing clinical duties
Basic Qualifications:
Experience and Additional Requirements: Must maintain credentials and required certifications. Education:
- For APNs: Masters Degree in Nursing from an accredited program approved by the State Board of Nursing
- For PAs: Bachelors Degree and graduation from an accredited program approved by ARC-PA
- Physician Assistant License (Colorado) or Pathologist's Assistant Certificate
- Advanced Practice Nurse Registration (Colorado) or relevant nursing certifications
- Additional certifications and registrations are required
