Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) are seeking a Radiation OncologyPhysician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner for our CMH-OHSU Knight Cancer Collaborative in Astoria, Oregon. The Knight Cancer Collaborative is part of the Knight Cancer Institute, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. This position is a Clinical Associate within OHSU’s School of Medicine, Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology. 

The Collaborative provides comprehensive, personalized cancer care to help people in Northwest Oregon and Southwest Washington receive the treatment they need, while maintaining their quality of life. The Collaborative brings together OHSU Knight Cancer Institute's leadership and excellence in oncology care with the friendly, welcoming atmosphere of Columbia Memorial Hospital, a leader among Oregon’s rural hospitals.  As part of the Collaborative, our comprehensive care includes Radiation Oncology, medical oncology, infusion, nutrition, and social services, pharmacy, and patient navigation.

Department Overview
Columbia Memorial Hospital (CMH) located in Astoria, Oregon is a full service, 25-bed, critical access, not-for-profit, Planetree Gold-Certified hospital where person-centered care is a priority. CMH has proudly served the healthcare needs of our community for over a century. Combined, the hospital and clinics employ over 700 employees which includes a diverse professional medical staff of more than 80 physicians and advance practice professionals including surgical, non-surgical and primary care specialties. The Department of Radiation Medicine is part of the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, Oregon's only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center and the only NCI-designated cancer center between Seattle and Sacramento. Oncology at OHSU covers the full spectrum of cancer services including medical oncology, surgical oncology, radiation medicine, immunotherapy, and cancer clinical trials. Our patients benefit greatly from this multi-pronged emphasis on delivering excellent clinical care, providing state-of-the-art education, and conducting ground-breaking research.

Function/Duties of Position
Deliver patient care services under physician supervision in the Radiation Oncology Clinic:

  • Takes patient histories and performs physical examinations.
  • Initiates, documents, and communicates the plan of care and follows up to ensure complete screening and preparation of patients.
  • Performs daily patient rounds.
  • Confers with attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and/or other care providers to ensure optimum quality of patient care.
  • Upon discharge, notes discharge summaries, prescriptions, and any referrals on patient charts.
  • Informs patients of the necessary post-discharge care instructions.
  • Evaluates outpatient Radiation Oncology patients for treatment, contributes to the treatment plan, manages the care of patients undergoing radiation therapy, and provide post-therapy follow up care as applicable.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, comprehensive patient education, and psychosocial support of the patient and family experiencing cancer.
  • Acts as a resource to Physicist, Radiation Therapists, Registered Nurse, and Medical Assistant

Required Qualifications

  • Physician Assistant: Valid State of Oregon Physician Assistant license, current Physician Assistant license for State of Oregon, State of Oregon Licensure under CMH MD, Recommend membership in professional organization.
  • Nurse Practitioner: Valid State of Oregon Registered Nurse license, current Nurse Practitioner license for the state of Oregon, State of Oregon Nurse Practitioner Prescriptive Privileges, Recommend membership in professional nursing organization.
  • Recommended oncology certification – required within one year after hire.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of two years’ experience, preferably in oncology.
